Let’s look at 5 more songs from 1980 that seem to have been mostly forgotten by radio stations since the time they were current. Anyone remember these?
1. Set Me Free – Utopia (Billboard #27)
This was the only top 40 hit for Utopia, which featured Todd Rundgren on guitar and vocals. It first charted in the top 40 on March 29, and is from their album Adventures in Utopia:

2. When I Wanted You – Barry Manilow (Billboard #20)
Appearing in the top 40 for the first time on February 2, this is probably one of the least-remembered of all Barry’s top 40 hits today. Strangely, despite being a top 20 hit, it hasn’t been included on any of his greatest hits compilations, although the album it's from, One Voice, is still in print. A clip of it can be heard here: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=290326.
3. Keep the Fire – Kenny Loggins (Billboard #36)
This is my favorite of all Kenny’s songs, and I’ve never quite understood why it hasn’t gotten more airplay over the years. This was one of two singles released from his album of the same title, and made its first appearance in the top 40 on April 5. It’s also available on one of his greatest hits compilations, The Essential Kenny Loggins: entertainment.msn.com/album/?album=659894.
4. The Wanderer – Donna Summer (Billboard #3)
This song was something of a departure in style for Donna, who had charted only disco-oriented hits up until the time of its release. ‘The Wanderer’ appeared in the top 40 for the first time on September 27, and was the first and most successful of the three hits from that album. Despite being a top 5 hit, this song hasn’t received much airplay since the early 80’s. Here is the link to a clip: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=172098.
5. I’m Happy That Love Has Found You – Jimmy Hall (Billboard #27)
Although Jimmy made three other appearances in the top 40 as co-leader of the Southern rock band Wet Willie, ‘I’m Happy’ was his only chart hit as a solo artist, entering the top portion of the charts on November 1. It’s available on several 80’s compilation CDs, and a clip can be heard here: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=284713.
