10. Money for Nothing – Dire Straits 9. You’re Only Human (Second Wind) – Billy Joel 8. Cherish – Kool & the Gang 7. Never Surrender – Corey Hart 6. Shout – Tears for Fears 5. Summer of ’69 – Bryan Adams 4. We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome) – Tina Turner 3. Freeway of Love – Aretha Franklin 2. St, Elmo’s Fire (Man in Motion) – John Parr 1. The Power of Love – Huey Lewis & the News
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

A pretty strong line up today . I had just graduated High School 10. There's no doubt this song was HUGE at the time Mark and the guys were everywhere. Still a great tune to crank up in the car and sing along with. 9.I'm a big fan of Billy's - but he's released better. It's Ok. 8.Nice enjoyable song that radio has forgotten. 7. Canada's 80's teen idol - very overplayed up here at the time though - but it was alright. 6.Love it! 5.This is one of my all time faves from Bryan Listened to this often back then. 4.I liked her earlier 80's hits alot more. 3.Catchy tune from the Queen of Soul 2. Remember seeing the movie - very overplayed at the time. 1.Back To The Future - Woo Hoo - An excellent tune from an excellent movie - I have the 45

Hey Dawn! 1985...still a few good ones around, but beginning to weaken.
10. Money for Nothing - OK song, but I liked Walk of Life and Sultans of Swing much better.
9. You’re Only Human (Second Wind) - Catchy tune. Nice song to sing along with, but Billy had MANY better songs.
8. Cherish - Kool doesn't get the same recognition as a lot of his contemporaries, but he had many good tunes. This is one of them.
7. Never Surrender - Not bad.
6. Shout - Love their sound. One of my faves by them.
5. Summer of ’69 - My fave on the chart today. Probably my fave by Bryan.
4. We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome) - Eh
3. Freeway of Love - Not my fave by her by a longshot
2. St, Elmo’s Fire (Man in Motion) - Didn't care for the movie, didn't care for the song.
1. The Power of Love - Nothing Huey did really stands out in my mind. This is just OK.

Hey Dawn
10. Money for Nothing - Great Dire Straits song.
9. You're Only Human - Was getting tired of Billy at this point. Not one of my favorites.
8. Cherish - Don't really remember this from Kool & the Gang, although I like most of everything else they did.
7. Never Surrender - Another song I don't remember
6. Shout - Great song
5. Summer of '69 - Probably my favorite Bryan Adams song.
4. We Don't Need Another Hero - Good song
3. Freeway of Love - The Queen of Soul still belting out the hits.
2. St. Elmo's Fire - Remember watching Solid Gold and watching my daughter (then a year & half old) dancing to this song. It was funny, but a great memory.
1. The Power of Love - Another winner from Huey Lewis.

YEESH! Stuff was starting to get bad!
10. SO sick of this one. Hate that this gets HUGE classic rock play, while other, older songs get ignored. I think they were overrated based on this album. (Actually, I have the 45! LOL!)
9. Typical Billy Joel. Take that how you want.
8. Eh. Don't like it.
7. Liked this enough at the time to get the 45 (with a foldout poster for the sleeve). Still not an awful song.
6. Another song I have on 45. And another I got sick of quickly.
5. Decent tune, but there were others on this album I liked better.
4. No thanks.
3. No way.
2. Good tune. I still like it.
1. Good one, liked it more then than now.
NOTE-although I wasn't very nice to this chart, overall, these songs bring back good memories. If I heard these all right in a row, I would be taken back to listening to B96, the top 40 station, on a one speaker boombox in my buddies room!

I've always liked his music, but I'm kinda lukewarm about this one. You are so right about 'Cherish' - I never hear it on the radio anymore. I remember hearing it often when it was current, though. I love Back to the Future! Such a great movie, and Christopher Lloyd is absolutely hilarious in his role!

I agree - though there were some good songs out at this time, the quality of music overall was not as good as it was in earlier years. You make a good point about Kool. He had a lot of hits, but the group and their music seem to be so overlooked these days. I agree with you about Tears for Fears - they were definitely one of the bright spots of mid-80's music. 'Shout' is excellent!

What a nice memory about your daughter! 'The Power of Love' has always been one of my favorites of Huey's. It has a great "edge" to it.

Although I like 'Money for Nothing' a lot, I agree with you about older songs not getting play in favor of this one. I've never quite understood how classic rock playlists are determined - around here, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Like you, there are some cuts from Reckless that I prefer over 'Summer of '69', although it is a good, rockin' song. I'm the same way with many of these mid 80's charts. Even though there are some songs I don't care for, they do help to bring back memories of those times.

I would be going toward 7th grade. Of the 3 middle school years, this would be the best.
10) So overplayed. Loved it at the time, then my dad got the tape..... 9) Not bad. He has better, but also worse. 8) A staple at school dances. 7) Good song. Not heard too much anymore. 6) Great song. Love TFF. 5) Eh. Never really liked it. 4) Loved the movie. Song was ok. 3) Eh. Aretha looked BAD (not the good bad) on that video. 2) Loved this one at the time - had massive crushes on most male cast members - played the 45 to death. Sick of it now. 1) HUEY!!!!! Unfortunately, this was way overplayed due to the movie.

Unfortunately, this was way overplayed due to the movie. I remember both 'Cherish' and 'Never Surrender' were both school dance staples my senior year. Never Surrender was our homecoming theme in 1985! I really like Huey's music also, and this one has always been a favorite. But, I agree it did get a lot of airplay back when the movie was current.
