Let's take a look at a chart from the early 60's today. These were the top 10 songs on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart on September 1, 1962.
10. Little Diane – Dion 9. Vacation – Connie Francis 8. Roses are Red – Bobby Vinton 7. Things – Bobby Darin 6. She’s Not You – Elvis Presley 5. Party Lights – Claudine Clark 4. You Don’t Know Me – Ray Charles 3. Breaking Up is Hard to Do – Neil Sedaka 2. The Loco-Motion – Little Eva 1. Sheila – Tommy Roe
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

Hey Dawn! '62 is thought of as kind of the pre- British Invasion dark days, but there was a lot of good music also. This is a very good chart, IMO. 10. Little Diane - One of Dion's lesser played songs, but I've always liked it. Love the kazoo in this one. 9. Vacation - For several years thereafter, this was a summertime theme song. (Isn't it funny that it came out so late. - Didn't even hit the top 40 til mid August.) (Then there was the DJ who kept swearing that Connie was really trying to spell Vaccination. ) 8. Roses are Red - Sappy song. But I always loved it. (All time top 250.) 7. Things - Kind of a strange song for Bobby. It was neither in his rock mode or in his Nightclub mode. Not a fave. 6. She’s Not You - Really good song from the King. But this one is not remembered nearly as much as most of his. 5. Party Lights - Catchy song. Pleasant to listen to. 4. You Don’t Know Me - Great cover of an old song that I first heard done in the '50s by Jerry Vale. 3. Breaking Up is Hard to Do - Neil's signature song. A true classic. 2. The Loco-Motion - I'm sure everyone knows the story of Carole King writing the song, and her babysitter having the hit. I actually liked the Grand Funk cover better. 1. Sheila - Great song! Tommy does a good Buddy Holly impression. I remember him (Tommy, that is) being interviewed and saying that he wrote the song for his girlfriend. His girlfriend's name was Frieda, but, he said, that didn't sound as good. So he switched it to Sheila. (I wonder if his girlfriend then switched boyfriends. )

10. Don't know it, but it can't be too bad, being Dion.
9. Great tune! My fave on here!!
8. Kinda corny.
7. Don't know it.
6. A tune I NEVER knew until I got the 2 disc Top Ten Hits collection about 10 years ago. Ok, but not the King's best!
5. Cool tune! I like it. My dad had it on his juke box.
4. Don't know it.
3. Like the remake better.
2. Again, like the (Grand Funk) remake better.
1. Good tune.

There are quite a few good ones on this chart, I agree! That is strange about 'Vacation' charting so late - you'd think they would have aimed for an early June release. LOL about the DJ! ;D You're right about 'She's Not You' not being well-remembered - in fact, I don't think I've ever heard it on any of the oldies stations here. Good song, though. I'm with you about Grand Funk's version of 'The Loco-Motion' being the better of the two. That was the version I remember hearing first, back in 1974.

I always thought 'Good Luck Charm' and 'She's Not You' sounded very similar also, Ken! I'm with you about the 70's version of 'Breaking Up is Hard to Do'. I only wish he hadn't put the snippet of the original version at the beginning of the song - the two versions are so different in mood and style that it's a little jarring. 'Sheila' has such a great, Buddy Holly-esque sound!

I've only heard 'She's Not You' on compilations also - as I mentioned to H2, it never gets play on the oldies stations here.

I hear it every so often, but not as much as some of his other hits.
