A typical 1974 top 10, including 7 of the 35 #1's of the year. Quite cheesy tunes by today's stndards, but who knew better in this wonderful year of "me" and streaking? If ANY song here has stood the test of time, it's Eric Clapton.
But don't get me wrong, I LOVE every song here! ;D I don't think too many others here can claim the same.

Hey Dawn! Not my favorite chart today. Oh well. 10. Then Came You - I like a lot of Dionne's music. I really like the Spinners, but I'm barely lukewarm on this song. 9. You and Me Against the World - Not bad, but not her best, IMO. 8. The Night Chicago Died - Decent arrangement. Seemed to brinng an aura of a decade long past. - But not my fave. 7. Nothing From Nothing - Probably my fave on the chart today. Maybe Billy's best. 6. Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe - I've said before that most of Barry's songs sound alike. (Probably because his voice is so unique it makes you listen to IT rather than the song itself. This one is more memorable as a song itself. Not bad at all. 5. I’m Leaving It (All) Up to You - Prefer the original by Dale and Grace, and I don't like THAT one that much. 4. Rock Me Gently - OK. Not a fave. 3. Tell Me Something Good - My second fave on the chart. 2. I Shot the Sheriff - Waaaay overplayed in the day. Not a bad song itself. 1. (You’re) Having My Baby - If you happen to be a couple in the process of having, or planning to have a family, it's probably right up there on your list. Barring that, its hopelessly sappy.

With Paul Anka, Donny & Marie & Helen Ready on here, it looks like a set list from one of those non-rock "memories" stations that mixes in stuff like that with pre-rock stuff like Judy Garland & Dean Martin.
10. Not big on Dionne solo, but I LOVE this tune.
9. Don't know it.
8. Typical earlier 70's pop fluff.
7. Not really big on it.
6. I'm with H2-his stuff all sounds the same.
5. YEESH.
4. Good one, I like it.
3. The best on this chart, without question. Funky rock, one of the earliest uses of the talk box.
2. SO sick of it.
1. Don't even really know it.

He's really an excellent songwriter, and I think he often doesn't receive the credit he deserves.

Hi Ken! I agree - 1974 is my favorite year for music! Superstars is a great album! If I remember correctly, that one has a few full-length songs on it ('Poetry Man' and 'Get Dancin', I think), which was kind of unusual for a K-tel album. An excellent collection of songs! I agree about Barry - I've always enjoyed his music also. I had read not long ago that he had been ill, but it was still a shock to hear of his death. LOL about Paul Anka!

Sorry about that. 'The Night Chicago Died' does have a nostalgic quality to it, I agree. 'Nothing from Nothing' is a great one from Billy. He is an amazing keyboard player, and the lyrics are definitely catchy! You make a good point about Barry. He had such a wonderful, unique bass voice, and his phrasing is similar on quite a few of his songs. I agree with you that this one seems to stand out.

You're absolutely right about the set list - there is a "Music of Your Life" station here that plays those exact artists you mentioned! 'Then Came You' was a nice change of style for her. The Spinners are great on this one also! I just heard 'Tell Me Something Good' earlier today! It's such a cool, funky song that I love more and more each time I hear it.

Hi dodger! 'The Night Chicago Died' is pretty catchy, I agree. I remember reading that they had recorded 'Billy Don't Be a Hero', but I don't think it was too successful chart-wise. 'Rock Me Gently' is my favorite of Andy's. I remember it well from my childhood days. 'I Shot the Sheriff' is a classic, one of Eric's best. The blend of rock and reggae sounds great.
