"Sweet Jane" - The Velvet Underground (1970)
Standing on the corner, suitcase in my hand, Jack is in his corset, and Jane is in her vest, and, me, I'm in a rock'n'roll band. Ridin' in a Stutz-Bearcat, Jim Y'know, those were different times! Oh, all the poets, they studied rules of verse, And the ladies, rolled their eyes.
Sweet Jane! Sweet Jane! Sweet Jane!
Jack, he is a banker, And Jane, she is a clerk. Both of them are saving their monies, When, when they come home from work! Ooh! Sittin' down by the fire, oh! The radio keeps playin, A little classical music for you kids, "The March of the Wooden Soldiers". And you can hear Jack say:
Sweet Jane! Sweet Jane! Oh! Sweet Jane!
Some people, they like to go out dancing, And other people, they just have to work. And there's always some evil mothers, Who'll tell you that life is just full of dirt. Y'know that, women, never really faint, And that villains always blink their eyes, And children are the only ones who blush, And life is just to die!
But anyone who ever had a heart, oh, they wouldn't turn around and break it. And anyone who ever played a part, oh, they wouldn't turn around and hate it
Sweet Jane, oh, wow-woh Sweet Jane
Sweet Jane, Sweet Jane Sweet Jane, Sweet Jane Sweet Jane, Sweet Jane

Really good tune - a classic. A buddy gave me an extra copy of this that he had on CD.

For a band that, IMO, is SEVERELY overated, this was a really great song, with an awesome intro that I can hear over and over and STILL not get tired of.
If they had one song that SHOULD'VE been a hit single, this is it!

Still don't know any Velvet stuff. I'm sure you've heard this song though? Most people even if they don't know VU at least are familiar with this track or the Cowboy Junkies' remake of it from the 90s.
