I was moseying around YouTube yesterday like I often do, and stumbled across the E! True Hollywood Story of the Carpenters, which I remember seeing but never recorded. I ended up watching the whole thing(it's broken up into 8 parts in accordance with YouTube's preferred 10-minute-per-video standard). Then, doing a search on the poster "CrescentNoon"(sic), I found the "Biography" segment on the duo as well as a BBC show. The Carpenters have always been a guilty pleasure of mine, and seeing these videos made me realize not only what a phenomenal singer Karen was, but a kick-ass drummer as well--and in the early years, she did both simultaneously! Now, if I could only find my greatest-hits CD...

I love watching that footage of their early performances. Karen was an exceptionally good drummer, but that aspect of her talent gets overlooked these days it seems. She's always been one of my favorite vocalists, and it's very tragic that we lost her at such a young age.

I've been a fan from the beginning..."Goodbye to Love" has to be one of the best ballads ever recorded by anyone, and that voice....
