I remember hearing this catchy tune when it was current, it was the first song of Gilbert's that I was familiar with. I found a very nice original copy of the 45, back in the early 80's.I love the song and it peaked on the billboard charts at #7 in 1973.The fine people at Rhino included the track on Volume 11 of the "Have a Nice Day" CD series. here is an audio sample www.amazon.com/gp/music/wma-pop-up/B0000032MY001008/ref=mu_sam_wma_001_008

That's a good song Ken. I remember it well. I was stationed in South Carolina at the time. I also remember his other two top 10 hits, one that was multi week #1 & one that was a multi week #2.

I remember this one well, Ken. I think this was Gilbert's last top 10 song. Usually if you hit that third top 10 song, you will usually be around for the long haul. But it wasn't true in Gilbert's case. Maybe it was a change of style. This was more of a rock song. Maybe people wanted him to sing more sad ballads. Fine song, though!

Love this one!! When they had the 70's station, they played that one a bit, and that's where I really learned it.

Great song, Ken. I bought the 45 years ago at a record fair, and then later got it on the Rhino collection.

I love that song! I used to own a copy of his self-titled album, and I loved all of it.

GET DOWN was probably the greatest of several good singles by GILBERT, including CLAIR and OUT OF THE QUESTION. my sister had the album. GET DOWN defined "catchy" for me, then and now...that whole early-to-mid 70s era was so ripe with near perfect pop tunes blasting out of my AM radio. sometimes, the only way to get that feeling back for me is to play one of those HAVE A NICE DAY cds from RHINO!
