The song is from the 1955 movie "Unchained". It has been done and redone many times, (four versions on the charts in 1955 alone) the most familiar probably being the Righteous Brothers cover in 1966 (which was then revived for the movie Ghost in 1990). The Vito and the Salutations version is an up tempo doo wop version. (You may like it, or you may not, but you ought to hear it at least once. Roy Orbison has recorded a version of it as well. I couldn't find it on a cd, but finally waded through the pile of downloads that SAYS it's Roy singing, but it's not (it's the Righteous Brothers) and finally found one that really IS Roy.
So-- I voted for ---The Righteous Brothers. They weren't first, but their version is the best. Roy is second and Al Hibbler 3rd.

I haven't heard all the versions, but I'm going to go with The Righteous Brothers. A classic!

The Righteous Brothers version is my favorite. Of the versions I've heard, it's the one with the most emotion (imo)

I'm sick to death of the Righteous Brothers version. They have so many other songs that are better than this one, but this is what oldies radio plays ad nauseum. So, I'll go with Vito And The Salutations.

I am so burnt out on the Righteous version it isn't funny. Chose Les Baxter's from 1955. "Unchain me, unchain me".
