Wow...a close race 1970 was! The Carpenters and George Harrison each got 3 votes, but sneaking in just ahead with 4 votes... Bridge over troubled water!
My 1971 pick: Brand new key!!! ;D

I voted for Stairway to Heaven. Many a night was spent in the early '70s listening to that song and trying to determine what it all meant while under the influence of various --- oh never mind. You've Got A Friend nearly got the vote, and both Joy to the World and Maggie May were very close also.

It's the most overplayed track in rock and roll history I would bet...more so than "Layla", "Freebird", "Old Time Rock and Roll", "You Shook Me All Night Long" or "House of the Rising Sun". Still, it's the best of the bunch and a true classic.
Stairway to Heaven
