I don't think this has been done yet at the Click site.
Have some time to kill, so I'd do a neat poll.
I chose 1975-79. Man those years RULED!!!
Pre-1964 gave us sweet, innocent pop, cool early rock 'n roll, some trend-setting R & B, doo-wop, and scores of teen idols.
1964-1966 was the British Invasion, Motown at its peak, California harmonies, and more.
1967-70 was the great age of psychedelia, brass rock, fun bubblegum, and some offbeat offerings like Tiny Tim.
1971-74 was the age of the singer/songwriter, pre-teen liked families, afro-soul, even room for comedy like Cheech & Chong.
1975-79 had loads of disco, arena rock, no-nonsense pop/rock, 50's throwbacks of Grease, and experimental rock, often dealing with the versitality of keyboard instruments.
1980-82 was kind of a dead time, but arena rock was still alive, the 70's pop-rock of pre-MTV continued, country combined with pop in a big way, and jazz had some crossover.
1983-86 was the golden age of MTV. Many foreign acts, mainly from the UK, flaunted their fashion. Many veteran acts still continued to chart like Macca, Rod Stewart, Elton John and Stevie Wonder. Movie hits seemed especially popular.
1987 to the present was a mishmash of sounds that actually had something for everyone. Teen pop was strong, rap came into its own, cheesy dance sounds were ringing, country is hotter than ever, alternative, especially grunge, flexed its muscle, and best of all, many rock groups, young and old were still showing that rock 'n roll hasn't died. Veterans like the Stones, Aerosmith and Cheap Trick are still at it. And room for great newer ones like the Gin Blossoms and Hootie & the Blowfish, and the "retro" sounds of the likes of No Doubt and Smash mouth.
