I signed up and finally got my Fan Club package! It came with a card, a newsletter (nice little booklet), a magnet and a key chain (with my two fave pics of her from the GH album). Those 2 cost $5 each normally, so that is a good deal right there. But the biggest plus is during the course of the year I get two opportunities to go to Meet and Greets and meet her!!! Are you currently or have you ever been a member of a music star's fan club?

Excellent, Sat! I know you'd love it if you actually got to meet Martina someday. Way back when, I was a member of both The Carpenters and John Denver's fan clubs. I've saved most everything that they ever sent me--newsletters, key chains, pencils, autographs (which were Xeroxed, I'm sure). I enjoy digging those out and looking at them every once in awhile. Especially since Karen and John are no longer with us, it's nice to have those "concrete" memories of them. Currently, I am a member of Pat Benatar's fan club online. I get e-mails from them all the time, and there are always opportunities for Meet and Greets (If I were ever in the right city for those, I'd go. LOL). I also get heads up info about concerts, TV appearances, and other stuff that Pat might be doing. I was also able to buy a t-shirt through the fan club a year or so ago, with a big picture of Pat on the front, and "Official Pat Benatar Fan Club Member" on the sleeves. It's pretty cool. I'm also an online member of Melissa Etheridge's fan club, but for that one, you actually have to pay money before you can get any perks. LOL! I've never officially joined by paying any dues, so I don't get the meet and greet opportunities for her, or any chances for autographed pics or anything. But I do get info on her thru e-mails, and some discounts on her merchandise, although I've never bought a whole lot thru the fan club. Someday maybe I'll pay the 35 bucks or whatever it is, and actually join up. ;D

I was a member of a Whitney Houston fan club a few years ago, and I was supposed to get newsletters quarterly, plus lots of pics, and opportunities as far as concert tickets and Meet and Greets and that sort of thing. I did get a really nice 8 x 10 photo of Whitney and a set of stickers, but I was a member for a year and only got two newsletters. We did have cool membership cards, though. They looked like credit cards. Anyway, since I got cheated on the newsletters, when it came time for me to renew my subscription the next year, I just let it lapse and didn't rejoin.

I didn't know non country stars do meet and greets!

Not being funny, but is there a difference in an online fan club? Just that it's free? I didn't know non country stars do meet and greets! I'm not sure I understand your question--do you mean is there a difference between an online fan club and a "mail in" fan club? If that's your question, I honestly don't know if there's a difference or not. LOL! I assume that with Pat's fan club--it's mainly done online--because they send me SO many things online--opportunities to meet her, to go watch video shoots, etc. And I've noticed that on Pat's more recent CD's and DVD's, she's always thanking "Joe Cross". He's the President of her fan club--the guy who sends out all the Pat info over the net. So, that's all I've got to go by. And I guess I've answered your other question about non-country artist's meet and greets. Pat has those all the time with her fans. And I'm pretty sure Melissa does too. So I wouldn't doubt that a lot of other artists do that, as well.

Cool! What'd ya do with the poster though? At first, I forgot I made this post, and just saw "I am a Martina fan club member" and I thought YOU joined! LOL!

LOL My dad decided he was going to paint my room sometime in the late 70's and so I had to remove all the posters on the walls and some of them including Elton disappeared.

I was a member of the Monkee Business fan club (official fan club) for many years, but dues just got too high for the newsletters which only came out 4 times a year. It was a nice sized newsletter, but when there wasn't any Monkee news (the years they didn't tour) it was just loaded with blips about how the episode of Adam12 featuring Micky aired on channel so and so......these were contributed by fans. I was in one - The Filmation movie "Treasure Island" featuring the voice of Davy Jones as Jim Hawkins was aired on HBO......
I was a member of the KISS Army Firehouse Branch (Canadian). You were supposed to get some cool stuff when you signed up, but I was disappointed. We got a cheesy certificate and card that we had to put our own names on, a bumper sticker and I think that's it. We were suppoed to get 6 newsletters. We only ever got 2. We had moved mid-way through our membership and I had forgotten to notify him. He said it was my fault, but I can't imagine that the post office would not have forwarded my stuff. We complained, and he informed us that under the new rules he could only put out 4 issues a year, but he'd be generous and honor through the year for 6, but we only ever got 1 more, then a letter telling us we needed to renew. The stuff in the newsletters was always months old anyway.
I had wanted to join the New Kids fan club back in the 80's. I sent away for the application (yes, you had to apply) and it took 6 months for them to send it. Back then, they wanted $30 to join. I turned them down.
I have been in the Close Personal Friends Of Al for many many years. It's always been free. They just don't promise you anything. I believe it's run by his band members, and it could be months at a shot before you hear anything. At one time they occasionally sent newsletters, but now it's totally online.
I am also a member of Al-Aholics Anonymous. Again, it's free, and totally online. Through them, my husband and I hold "stock" in UHF Channel 62 (from Al's most excellent movie UHF). We got cool certificates e-mailed to us. At least I didn't have to pay$20 for them, and they came with my name on it (can you hear me, Mr. Canadian KISS Army dude!)
We will be joining the Charlie Daniels Band Fan Club in December (or sooner if I can scrape up an extra $20 in the meantime). My husband just loves him, and I feel I owe it to them for giving me backstage passes. You get a nice package from them for the price: t shirt, I think newsletters, great prices on merchandise, and meet and greet passes for shows and FanFair (which I doubt I'll ever go to - it's a madhouse, and I'm not into country), and maybe some other stuff - I can't remember.
Not music related, I was a member of the Brian Boitano fan club. I got a really cool autogrpahed picture, and then I made this wicked cool needlepoint thing for him, and he mailed me a personalized thank-you card. When people didn't believe me, I asked the fan club chick (who happened to be his coaches daughter) if she'd be able to get a picture of it for me. I got a note from his coach asking me to describe it, so I mailed my design to her, and she said his mom would look for it and get me a picture, and they never did. I did not rejoin, as it was $20, you only ever got 1 picture (when you first joined) and the newsletter was a photocopied 1 page sheet of paper.

Yeah I know ... this is an extremely old thread ... I've been a member of Martina's fan club now for a year and of course I signed up after she stopped the meet 'n' greet stuff (well aside from the luck of the draw). Adam did you ever take advantage of the meet 'n' greet perk before it was stopped? ... and do you know why it was stopped? Of course I'm a fairly new fan and all. I noticed her back when "My Baby Loves Me" was out and thought she had some amazing eyes. During that time was the "country boom" and line dancing was at it's height of popularity ... which means I thought country sucked! LOL! Well I still don't get too much into it now - my dad was a big country fan and I rebellled against it since he was a drunk at that time. LOL! I do like Keith Urban though ... he's a pretty good guitar player. Rob

I've never belonged to a fan club, although I wanted to join several when I was younger.
