Ok. By popular request, here it is. I don't know anything about the song or artist (nor could I find much of anything) so here it is:

My Opinion In A Nutshell: There could be several schools of thought going on here. 1) She rushed into a relationship and found out she just wasn't ready, and her man didn't want to put the effort forth. 2) She rushed in, her man tried, but she couldn't handle it anyway. 3) He wasn't cracked up to be what she thought he was. 4) She rushed into it, for whatever reason it didn't work, and now she realizes what she lost and wants to try again. 5) Her family was dead set against it and sabotaged it. It could go on and on......

I never could figure it out. I guess all of your scenarios would work. My read on it is that, whatever the scenario actually is, it really happened to Freda, or whoever wrote the song, or a close friend. It's too weird to have been made up from nothing.

I checked some Freda Payne websites but got no clue other than the song is "curious". D'uh!

Whatever, I guess it carries the old proverb "don't rush in to anything" to its extreme.

Don't like the song as such, but I always did wonder what it was about. Your #3 sounds the most likely. Something he did, but not evill, so that she really wants him to come back,but he feels he can't. Extreme impotence?

That's similar to a theory I read on a message board awhile back...he suffered, umm, a "performance problem" on their honeymoon, they "stayed in separate rooms," and now she's waiting for him to "walk back through that door/And love me like you tried before". I guess we'll never know...

It's got enough there so you can come up with a few viable ideas, but it's not quite enough to get you there....

I always think of Ozzy and Sharon's honeymoon when he was passed out drunk in the hall, but hey, that could work too!

This is definitely an intriguing song, and like H2, I think this most likely actually happened to Freda, someone she knew, or the song's author. Any of the scenarios you listed would be plausible, but I would lean toward #4.

You're probably right because everyone seems to be tight-lipped about the subject.....
