Read these and tell me you don't get choked up.
Then picture sad music and Martina's beautiful voice.
Goodbye
Occurred to me the other day You've been gone now a couple years Well I guess it takes a while For someone to really disappear And I remember where I was When the word came about you It was a day much like today The sky was bright and wide and blue
Chorus: And I wonder where you are And if the pain ends when you die And I wonder if there was Some better way to say goodbye
Today my heart is big and sore It's trying to push right through my skin Won't see you anymore I guess that's finally sinking in Cause you can't make somebody see With the simple words you say All their beauty from within Sometimes they just look away
Repeat Chorus
Some better way to say goodbye

I agree with you. These are very touching lyrics that really express the pain that people go through when they've lost someone they love this way. I definitely want to listen to this song.

It is a pretty song, and a good sentiment. It brings up a good point - you can't say goodbye. It just isn't possible. I don't care who you are, it just doesn't happen. Especially if you have to watch someone die slowly, like my grandpa or uncle.
It was better with grandpa because he was in a coma. He never woke up from the stroke. Uncle Dutch had a brain tumor, which slowly turned him into a vegetable. My grandma never gave up hope on grandpa, so we had to remain positive for her, even though we knew better. As for Uncle Dutch, we were told to keep it business as usual with him, as he didn't have the capability to comprehend what was happening to him once the tumor took over. There was no time to grieve while they were still alive. We just concentrated on making their last days as good as possible.
As for those who pass unexpectedly, saying goodbye wouldn't really help me. It sounds absurd, but there was an ep of South Park where the shop teacher wallowed in misery after losing his fiance' in a plane crash. He keeps saying that he never got to say goodbye. Her ghost speaks to him and says for him to say goodbye now. He does. She asks him if he feels any better. He says no. That's how it is for me.
Ok, I'm done being all depressing now.

Sorry to bring you down. Also sorry to hear about your family members. It is the hardest thing to do in life, accepting that situation. Did you actually listen to the song?

You really need to. Did reading it choke you up? It did, and although I haven't heard the melody yet, in my mind I was picturing Martina singing it much the way she sang Concrete Angel. I know I was in tears for a long time after I heard that song for the first time, and I have a feeling I would be the same way with this one.

You didn't bring me down. I've been thinking about Uncle Dutch lately. It was kind of wierd to see this since I've been thinking about him. Anyway, I'll try to listen to it later. Can't really do it right now.

It's time to remember and celebrate Sharon Tate for who she was ... not what happened to her.

I know this is an old subject (many of them are - but they are new to me) ... Martina's version is really good, but I have to say that I prefer Patty Griffin's version (song's writer) off of her "Living with Ghosts" album. The song I believe is placed in a better context with the material she had written during that time (or atleast what appeared on that album).
When I first heard the song which just happened to have been Martina's - I thought it was about losing a loved one. Then I heard Patty's version and the song has become more about a friend that has committed suicide and coming to grips with it. I believe that this will give a little more light to the lines:
Cause you can't make somebody see With the simple words you say All their beauty from within Sometimes they just look away
On the same album that "Goodbeye" appears, Patty has a song called "Tony" which is about a person that decided to end their life because they felt they never fit in ... this song is very touching too ....
