(This should actually go under the "repetitive songs" thread, but I can't find it. It's not an example of a "stupid" line, just a "too often-repeated" line.) Even though I love John Mayer (and I'm going to see him in concert tomorrow night--can't wait!!!!), his latest single, "Say", definitely falls into the "repetitive" category. The chorus is "Say what you need to say," repeated ad nauseum. It's a pretty song from a musical standpoint, but I think he "needed to say" a little bit more. Maybe it will be more interesting when I hear him do it live--sometimes live versions do make a song more interesting. Sorry again that this is in the wrong thread! Actually, Laura, you're in the ballpark. I enjoy John Mayer, but that current hit "Say" is repetitive as hell! BTW, I hope you enjoy the show! I did, thanks! (See one of my earlier messages)

I just heard one that should be on this list: It's a song I heard for the first time just a few minutes ago on the oldies station; sounds like maybe the Four Tops or some similar group. The dj didn't announce the song, so I don't know the title. Anyway, I liked it at first listen, but there was one part where--probably just for the sake of needing a rhyme--they sing about "tears on my face" that "only you can erase". Just make sure you don't use the pointy end of the pencil when you do that.

I can tell you a few more:
"I'm Yours"-Jason Mraz: "It's our God-forsaken right to be loved, loved, loved." That just drives me batty! I think whoever wrote the lyrics meant to say "our God-given right" and just mixed up their metaphors or something.
Here's an old one of which I finally saw the video last night, but it falls into the "repetitive" category:
"Stars" by Hear-n-Aid (sp?...it was the "hair band" equivalent of USA for Africa). I liked it better when I saw the video last night than when it first came out. I was disappointed when I first heard it because the entire chorus is "We're stars", repeated several times. Wow. A whole 2 words. The harmonies are great on that part, but the chorus should've been given more to sing! On the positive side, I liked the video because whenever anyone sang or played a solo, their name and what band they were in was listed on the screen. (For instance, one guy was from the group Rough Cutt. Rough Cutt??? What did they do? I don't remember them at all!) So it was nice to be able to put names w/voices and/or playing styles.

OK, the "Married With Children" marathon on TV Land posed an interesting observation.....
The song "Love And Marriage" contains the line "You can't have one without the other..."
A lot of married people are not in love..
A lot of people who are in love do not get married..
So that line is complete bull!
OF course, I could care less about the song, anyway. Never was big on Frank Sinatra.

Never was big on Frank Sinatra. Pete, Frankie sang that song back in 1955. There were as many extramarital relationships and loveless marriages then as there are now, if not more. People just didn't admit it. I was never big on Sinatra either. For one thing, he really didn't have that good a voice. The one exception is this one which is in my all time favorites, actually #9 when I last compiled. It has one of the most haunting, nostalgic melody/lyrics combination of any song I've ever heard.

It came out just when I was trying to get over someone, and it hit me in the right spot.

However was married to Ava Gardner, who was pretty hot back in her day!

However was married to Ava Gardner, who was pretty hot back in her day! (just stumbled across this...okay, I'm remarkably slow) What is really remarkable about the Sinatra/Gardner marriage is that she treated him like garbage--it was a very abusive relationship that just about destroyed him...so, for the only real time in his life, he "got what he dished out" to others... And, like the others, I'm not a huge fan--except for "It Was a Very Good Year", which I love like oxygen.
