I've never heard of a music fantasy camp. That's terrific! It makes sense. There are probably as many music star wannabes as there are sports star wannabes. So .. who is the other Trio vet? One of the originals? I know that John Stewart took Dave Guard's place. The other originals were Nick Shane and Bob Reynolds (I think. ... I'm trying to remember without looking it up. ) I know there were other replacements later on, but I don't remember who they were. You may regret getting me started.... I am a folk music junkie! Peter, Paul & Mary, Limeliters, Gordon Lightfoot, the Trio.... There probably isn't a song I don't know by heart, which is disappointing, as I was never much of a singer! But I also became something of a KT historian, even though I never did see the original Trio or the Stewart Trio in their heyday. You got the other two names, even if criscrossed: Bob Shane and Nick Reynolds were the other two original members, and since 1999, Reynolds has been Stewart's guest at the fantasy camps, where, for $3500 apiece, people who grew up wishing they could perform as a Trio member, can do just that. Meanwhile, Bob Shane acquired the Kingston Trio name and has been touring with other bandmates since the early 70's. For a short time in the 80's, Reynolds re-joined him, but being on the road was kind of hard on him, so he retired a second time. Shane's two companions from then on were George Grove and Bobby Haworth. The camp is held in Scottsdale, near Phoenix, AZ. Now early in 2004, a heart attack sidelined Shane. Bill Zorn, who had been with Shane in the Trio back in the 70's left his spot in the Limeliters to replace Shane. Shane went home to recuperate, in Phoenix. At the 2004 Camp, Shane got onstage with Reynolds and Stewart for like the first time in 23 or so years, and I was there for it. I've got all 3 signatures on a "Greenback Dollar." Another year passed, and Shane was told he wasn't to tour anymore. And his voice had been the foundation of the Kingston Trio "sound," while Grove, after 27 years, and Haworth, after 20, had learned to copy Guard or Stewart or Reynolds for their parts. To make a more desirable vocal blend, Shane fired Haworth and brought in Rick Dougherty, another former Limeliter. Zorn, Grove and Dougherty are the current line-up. Since it's in his backyard, Shane joined Stewart and Reynolds at the 2005 Fantasy Camp for the whole Thursday night thru Saturday night event. And to hear that man perform his trademark "Scotch & Soda" is akin to a religious experience. Now, curiously enough, the annual Mountain Music Festival, held across town here, has featured for the past couple years, some of the fantasy campers, Bobby Haworth, and Stewart's bass-player Dave Batti, and we've become pretty fair pals. The Retroland picture of me was taken by Bobby while I was managing the CD table at last year's fest. So, now you know more than you ever hoped! But you got me started, and you're old enough to remember those pre-Beatle days and can recognize what an impact the Kingston Trio had on popular music. Thanks for the interest.

Getting those autographs is great, and especially having the presence of mind to get them on a Greenback Dollar! Back in the '50s, two of the first albums I ever bought were "The Kingston Trio" and their live "Hungry I" album. I used to play them incessantly. Their version of "They Call the Wind Moriah" as being the best I ever heard. "Scotch and Soda" is such a great departure for them into blues. - and I remember back in the late '60s refering to the Beach Boys version of Sloop John B being a 'pretty good cover' and people looking at me funny.

I had to add this:
"I go to parties sometimes until four. It's hard to leave when you can't find the door." ~ Life's Been Good by Joe Walsh. Cracks me up everytime I hear it.

And I need you more than want you/and I want you for all time...--Glen Campbell, Wichita Lineman
Her name was Anne, and I'll be damned if I recall her face/She left me not knowing what to do...--Gordon Lightfoot, Carefree Highway
On a Sunday morning sidewalk, I'm wishing Lord that I was stoned/'Cause there's something in a Sunday that makes a body feel alone/And there's nothing short of dying that's half as lonesome as the sound/Of a sleepy city sidewalk and Sunday morning coming down...Kris Kristofferson/Johnny Cash, Sunday Morning Coming Down It's just knowing that the world won't be cursing or forgetting/When I walk along some railroad track and find/That you're moving down the backroad, by the rivers of my memory/Ever smiling and ever gentle on my mind.--Glen Campbell, Gentle on my Mind
Many others, but these always stay with me..

My middle name! (And yes, mine is the "e on the end" spelling.) That's one of the reasons why I always loved these lines from the Beatles' "Rocky Raccoon": Her name was Magill And she called herself Lil But everyone knew her as Nancy.... I just LOOOOOOVE hearing Paul sing my name. ;D Hopefully and possibly, since his new girlfriend shares the same name as I, he'll be singing it more.

To everything Turn Turn Turn There is a season Turn Turn Turn And a time to every purpose Under heaven Turn Turn Turn - The Byrds These lyrics were taken from the book of Ecclesiastes and Pete Seeger adapted the verses and added music. It may hold the record for the oldest lyrics to be used in a Number one song!

I mean -- have you taken a look at Keith Richards? He was past retirement even in Biblical times!

Maybe Keith could have been a character from the bible in a past life. Perhaps one of the more hard-scrabble types. Someone from the old or new testament. I know this has nothing to do with your post, but I think it's amusing. ;D

Here's a thread that's been out there over 2 years and I never put anything on it. Oh well. Here's are some of mine.
From Queen' Radio Ga-Ga You had your time, you had the power, You've yet to have your finest hour...Radio.
From the Eagles' Hotel California Last thing I remember, I was runnin' for the door. I had to find the passage back to the place I was before.
From Bob Dylan's Mr. Tambourine Man Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship, my senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip, my toes too numb to step, wait only for my bootheels to be wanderin'
From Jimmy Buffett's A Pirate Looks at Forty Yes I am a pirate, Two hundred years too late. The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder, I'm an over-forty victim of fate Arriving too late, arriving too late.
From Neil Young's Unknown Legend Somewhere on a desert highway, She rides a Harley-Davidson. Her long blonde hair flyin' in the wind. She's been runnin' half her life. The chrome and steel she rides collidin' with the very air she breathes. The air she breathes.
From the Five Man Electrical Band's Signs And the sign said "Long-haired freaky people need not apply" So I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why He said "You look like a fine upstanding young man, I think you'll do" So I took off my hat, I said "Imagine that. Huh! Me workin' for you!"
From Neil Diamond's Cracklin' Rosie You and me we go in style. Cracklin' Rose you're a store-bought woman, but you make me sing like a guitar hummin'. So hang on to me girl our song keeps runnin' on.
From Golden Earring's Radar Love No more speed I'm almost there. Gotta keep cool, now gotta take care. Last car to pass, here I go. And the line of cars go down real slow.
From Viva Las Vegas (done to many times, my favorite version is ZZ Top) I'm gonna keep on the run, I'm gonna have me some fun, If it costs me my very last dime. If I wind up broke, Then I'll always remember that I had a swingin' time. I'm gonna give it everything I've got. Lady Luck please let the dice stay hot. Let me shoot a seven with every shot.
From Van Morrison's Brown-Eyed Girl So hard to find my way, now that Im all on my own. I saw you just the other day, my, how you have grown! Cast my memory back there, lord, sometime Im overcome thinking about, making love in the green grass, Behind the stadium. With you, my brown-eyed girl, you, my brown-eyed girl.
That's 10, thousands more. But i'll stick with these 10 for now.
As a footnote to this post, somehow I quitely passed by 4,000 posts on this board. I now have 4,004. Somehow missed the milestone.

Congrats on reaching 4,000, Woody! Adam used to keep track of such things, and would post things like "Top 10 Posters" every now and then. But he hardly comes on at all any more. Anyway, here's a new member of my list of favorite song lines . From The Eagles Long Road Out of Eden album, the song is "Waiting In the Weeds" The entire song is filled with great imagery like: "And he's the darling of the chic The flavor of the week is melting Down your pretty summer dress Baby, what a mess you're making" and "And I've been waiting in the weeds Waiting for the summer rain to fall upon the Wild birds scattering the seeds Answering the calling of the tide's eternal tune The phases of the moon The chambers of the heart The egg and dart A small gray spider spinning in the dark In spite of all the times the web is torn apart"
