I don't know why, but these lyrics always bring a smile to my face!
"I went home with a waitress, the way I always do. How was I to know, she was with the Russians too." --Lawyers Guns & Money...Warren Zevon
"They say that looks don't count for much, If so, there goes your proof." --Is She Really Going Out With Him...Joe Jackson
"Augusta Georgia is just no place to be." --An American Dream...The Dirt Band
Yours??

The entire Moody Blues' Late Lament, but especially the last few lines:
"Cold hearted orb rules the night Removes the colors from our sight Red is gray and yellow white But we decide which is right And which is an illusion."
Also, Pink Floyd's Time: "Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you." (That excerpt used to be my signature in the early days of the Click! ;D )
From John Lennon's Beautiful Boy: "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans."
These lyrics are admittedly kind of somber, but I've always loved them. A lighter one:
"I was standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona" - The Eagles, Take It Easy Mark and I drove through Winslow when we were moving cross-country in May, so hearing this song now reminds me of that trip. How we managed to get ourselves, five indignant cats, a 25-foot Penske truck packed solid and towing a car across the US in a little over four days without going insane in the process, I'll never know! ;D

The somber ones are usually the ones I really like too, but that's ok. They usually remind me of a time when hearing a song pulled me through, and that's a good thing.
My very favorite is probably:
"Welcome to your life. There's no turning back." - Everybody Wants to Rule The World by Tears For Fears
Also-Ran:
"Well I'm not the kind to live in the past. The years run too short and the days too fast. The things you lean on are things that don't last." - Time Passages by Al Stuart
"I look around for the friends I used to turn to, to pull me through. Looking in to their eyes, I see them running too." - Running On Empty by Jackson Browne
"Now all the simple things are simply too complicated for my life. And how'd I get so faithful to my freedom? A selfish kind of life. When all I ever wanted was a simple thing; a simple kind of life." - Simple Kind Of Life by No Doubt
"You've got a lot of nerve to say you are my friend. When I was down, you just stood there grinning" and "I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes, and just for that one moment, I could be you. Yes I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes. You'd know what a drag it is to see you." - Positively 4th Street by Bob Dylan (I really love this whole song when I'm mad at someone who hurt me, but I've picked the essential parts, IMO)
"I'm here to remind you of the mess you left when you went away." - You Oughta Know by Alanis Morrissette (yeah, I probably spelled that wrong)
"A change of heart, a change of mind, and heaven fell that night. Let me go." - Let Me Go by Heaven 17
"You can't go on thinking nothing's wrong. Who's gonna drive you home tonight?" - Drive by The Cars
"I'm yours to keep. Do what you want. I'm going cheap." - Behind The Wheel by Depeche Mode
There's tons more, but that's what I got right now. I have a group of friends (which is never a good idea, I'm finding out) and they've kind of sort of split up. Someone has a big ego, and some irrational thoughts, and the whole thing falls apart. I'm probably closest to the one person who got the brunt of the ego and irrational thought, and it sucks because while I feel a loyalty to the rest of the group, I am closer to this one person. He was such a good friend when I really needed one, and I won't forget that. He's decided to go off and do his own thing, and while I remain friendly with the others, I've stayed with him (to the chagrin of a few) as have one or two others. We were doing a cd exchange (which the future of is still up in the air right now - no one is replying to my e-mails), and right before this all blew up, his cd that month was particularly good. He had a song I had long forgotten about on there. When this whole thing imploded, and I decided that I would still want to be his friend, and if that meant everyone else hated me, then so be it (as loyalty is important to me, and he was there for me when others really weren't), I got the most heartfelt e-mail from him that had me in tears that he was so happy I decided to hang in with him, as he considered me one of the best people he'd ever met.
I pulled out his cd and listened to it that night, and right there on that song, it hit me like a ton of bricks, and that's how I'll end this post:
"Don't worry girl. I'm gonna stick by you, and one day soon, we're gonna get in that car and get out of here." - Sunset Grill by Don Henley
(I dedicate that to Mike - a great friend, who has picked himself up and dusted himself off from some very unfair treatment, and "gotten out of there")

There's a song by Edward Bear, "Fool", that has lyrics that are so simple, but so...poingiant(sp?) that you get the emotion of the song, like the singer was sitting right in front of you. Haven't I been a fool To think that we could stay together? Haven't I been so blind To think that it could last forever? Haven't you changed your mind And found that something else is better? Haven't I been a fool for ever wanting to? Didn't we make some love When all the others were forgotten? Didn't we get so close That there was hardly any air? Didn't it seem so good I thought we'd never touch the bottom Didn't I seem a fool for never wanting to? I knew it would end Like the last page Of a sadly-written book I knew it would end But I loved the way it lasted And all the time it took. Shouldn't there be a time When we can sit and talk together? Couldn't we talk about the reason Something else is better? Didn't I change my mind And say I can't love you forever? Haven't I been a fool For ever wanting to....

Those are some very good lyrics, Alan. I'm not familiar with the song, but I'll see if I can come across it and have a listen.

Here's one of my favorite songs lyrically, and it's playing as I type this:
Dream On - Aerosmith
Everytime that I look in the mirror All these lines on my face gettin clearer The past is gone It went by like dust to dawn Isnt that the way Everybodys got their dues in life to pay
I know what nobody knows Where it comes and where it goes I know its everybodys sin You got to lose to know how to win
Half my life is in books written pages Live and learn from fools and from sages You know its true All the things come back to you
Sing with me, sing for the years Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears Sing with me, if its just for today Maybe tomorrow the good lord will take you away (x2)
Dream on, dream on Dream yourself a dream come true Dream on, dream on Dream until your dream come true Dream on, dream on, dream on...
Sing with me, sing for the years Sing for the laughter and sing for the tears Sing with me, if its just for today Maybe tomorrow the good lord will take you away
Kind of a dark song, but it's one of those I can relate to especially in more pensive moments.

That's the only Aerosmith song I actually think is better than "okay".

As for me, This song traxx is one of my FAVES from Billy Joel, gotta love listening to the lyrics & that rock n roll sound! *** PRESSURE *** You have to learn to pace yourself Pressure You're just like everybody else Pressure You've only had to run so far, so good. But you will come to a place Where the only thing you feel Are loaded guns in your face And you'll have to deal with..... Pressure You used to call me paranoid Pressure But even you cannot avoid..... Pressure You turned the tap dance into your crusade Now here you are with your faith And your Peter Pan advice You have no scars on your face And you cannot handle...... Pressure All grown up and no place to go Psych 1, Psych 2 What do you know? All your life is Channel 13 Sesame Street What does it mean? PRESSURE--PRESSURE

Y'know how it is, when someone breaks up with you, and you have to walk away...it might be just a few feet, but it's the longest walk you'll take, at least for a while. This is what's playing as you walk: LOVE'S A MYSTERY (The Tubes) Real Almost real I could feel The life flow into my veins.... Done Now it's done I have fallen for the final time I can't get up again.... Love's a mystery I don't understand Love's supposed to make you glad Tell me why I feel so bad- Love's a mystery I don't understand I won't see you anymore And if that's what love is for Then I don't understand! Free Now you're free You don't need me And you don't want what I give (baby, here is my heart....) Please Help me, please 'Cause if life is made For hearts in love Then how am I to live.... Love's a mystery I don't understand It's so hard to be alone When the one you love is gone- Love's a mystery I don't understand You won't stay another day And if that's all you can say Then I don't understand! Love's a mystery I don't understand I won't see you anymore And if that's what love is for Then I don't understand!
