Karaoke has ruined many a song for me--I sit there and go,"THAT'S what they were SINGING?"
Case in point--Elton John's "Daniel"...the way he totally slurred the lyric, I figured it had some deep, philosophical meanings--but no, I go to sing it at a bar, and there it is--His brother Daniel is flying to Spain (he's been there a lot, and he really likes it there) though there are scars that won't heal...huh?
Other songs that aren't fully understood--
"Every Breath You Take"--Police...nothing like songs about stalking and psychotic behavior to be misunderstood as a power love ballad!
"Surfin' Bird"--Trashmen...seems that this is NOT based on Jean-Paul Sartre's philosophies on human coexistence in a Godless universe, but that it is "The Bird's The Word" and "Pa-Pa Oom Mow Mow" slapped together by Minnesota frat boys. Whoulda thunk it?
