Here's a creepy lyric for ya: I always loved the song, "Into the Night" by Benny Mardones. It was always a favorite of mine. Then, several years ago, someone on Yesterdayland pointed out the opening line: "She's just sixteen years old. Leave her alone, they say". So, basically, the whole song is about some older man lusting after a 16 year old girl. Ick. I never even realized (or was in denial about) the subject matter of the song, since I loved it so much. Now I'm just totally disapointed in the lyrics. LOL! I agree, Kathy, but I always lovrd the melody, so I just decided that the guy singing was no more than 18 or 19, instead of 27 or 35. I guess I'll have to think of it that way, too. But I'm still creeped out about it, now. LOL!

Ed or somebody...does anyone remember a song from the mid-60's, sung by somebody-Noel, or Noel-somebody, that closed with the line, "A pretty girl, lying by the edge of the road..DEAD".

Yes indeed, Alan. It's "A Young Girl" by Noel Harrison. And for you trivia buffs, Noel is the son of Rex Harrison who was the original Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady.

Thanks...I was thinking Noel Harrison, but I wasn't sure. I just Googled and Wikied this guy, but I can't find any mention of the song...he gets listed for "Windmills Of Your Mind".

I've heard OF that song, but I haven't heard it. I remember during my college years in the '80s, someone said they saw Noel Harrison onstage in (I think) "Camelot", and that he shared his dad's habit of talking the lyrics rather than singing. Did he do that on this song?
updated to say: Just found this song on YouTube. Not bad at all! And in answer to my question, no, it's not a "talking" song for the most part. I remembered reading about it in some book that had a list of "tragedy" songs, or something like that.
I don't think I've ever heard Noel's version of "The Windmills of Your Mind", but I know a lot of people have recorded it. Sting's version is great!
