1956
Elvis' first LP, simply titled with his name, ships. As per the Colonel's philosophy of controlled availability and trickle-down economics, the single, Heartbreak Hotel, is not on the LP, but its success provides the impetus to launch the album. It becomes RCA's biggest-selling pop album to date.
Those first two albums by him are awesome!
I guess the Colonel was like Brian Epstein, leaving many of the singles off albums!

'Heartbreak Hotel' is a great tune, one of my favorites of his earlier songs. I've never heard the first album all the way through, but I'd like to check it out sometime.

Is that the album that has a pic of Elvis in profile?

Is that the album that has a pic of Elvis in profile? No, that's the second one, simply titled Elvis, with the orange background. This is the one titled Elvis Presley, along the side and bottom. The Clash later borrowed the style for London Calling.
