October 12, 1957 - 47 years ago today, Little Richard quit rock and roll for religion. Richard exclaimed: “If you want to live for the Lord, you can’t rock and roll,” and to prove his point he threw 4 diamond rings into the Hunter River in Sydney, Australia. We all know that Little Richard re-discovered rock ‘n roll a few years later. And it was only fitting, since Little Richard was there when it all started. Little Richard had his first hit record in 1956 with Tutti Fruitti.
