While answering Woody's CD Mix post, I thought of this thread idea. Given that most of us love '60s through mid '80s music (what now constitutes oldies ), I suspect many of us tune into the oldies radio station at least occasionally. Are there any songs that your local station(s) seem to play much more often than others? There are two I listen to are KOLA and KRTH, and both have similar playlists. Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry I'm not sure why, but if I listen to either of those stations for an hour or so, the chances are very, very good that song will pop up. Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac And to a slightly lesser extent, Dreams. Both of these get regular play, but songs like Tusk, Think About Me, even The Chain get little or none. Low Rider - War I hardly ever heard this on oldies radio when I lived in Virginia, but out here it gets a lot of play, as War is still very popular in L.A. Takin' Care of Business - BTO Other than You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet, this is the only BTO song the oldies stations here play, and it turns up pretty often. What are the most-played songs in your area?

There's an oldies station here that I listen to occasionally, and it seems that every time I have it on, they play "Old Time Rock and Roll" by Bob Seger. They also play a lot of .38 Special, for some reason.
Another station I listen to plays "Another Brick in the Wall" and Boston's "More than a Feeling" almost non-stop. They also play tons of Fleetwood Mac and Led Zeppelin. There's a combination for ya! LOL!

We've got one FM station here in Cleveland that plays oldies, WMJI, 105.7. I rarely listen to them anymore, because they play pretty much the same songs over a three month or so period, gradually adding different stuff, always hits, no b-sides or middle-of -the-album cuts, which sucks. (They're a Clear Channel outlet.) Of course, the stuff they ease in you heard a year or so ago, over and over.... THE DOORS- "Light My Fire", "Hello, I Love You", "Touch Me, Babe" BEATLES- "A Day In The Life", "Yellow Submarine", "Hey, Jude" TODD R.- "Hello, It's Me", "I Saw The Light", "We Gotta Get You A Woman" It goes on from there.

Due to major overplay on oldies radio stations, these are the top 5 songs I never want to hear again:
5-I'm A Believer-Monkees (They did so much better than this!) 4-Stop! In The Name Of Love-Supremes (Shoot me already) 3-Do Wah Diddy Diddy-Manfred Mann (Never cared for this much to begin with!) 2-(Oh)Pretty Woman-Roy Orbison (I think Ed even mentioned that HE'S sick of this one!)
and the #1 song I never want to hear again is (drumroll plaese)..........................
1. I Got You Babe by Sonny & Cher (I hear those first few notes and I start to cringe!!)

I Got You Babe by Sonny & Cher (I hear those first few notes and I start to cringe!!) That's true about "(Oh) Pretty Woman", Pete. I'd get ticked off every time our local oldies station played it. It was the only Roy Orbison song that they'd play at all. But I've stopped listening to commercial oldies stations, so the only time I hear the song is on the rare occasion that I choose to play it myself. Now I don't mind it that much at all. The local station never obsessed on I've Got You Babe, so I've continued to like that song quite a bit. In fact, last Saturday Night, Nancy and I heard it about 20 or so times. We were watching our tape of Groundhog Day. ;D

The most common ones I hear are...
Smokin' In The Boys Room (I HATE THIS SONG NOW!)
Go Your Own Way (alas, it is overplayed here too)
Shout/TEARS FOR FEARS (it was good in the 80's...let's leave it that way)

I haven't been listening to the radio much lately. And that's why. Each station tends to burn out whatever songs are on their playlist. I'd rather just listen to CD's.

A few that come to mind:
Take The Long Way Home / The Logical Song - Supertramp Dancing In The Streets - Martha & The Vandellas Stop! in The Name Of Love - The Supremes (Pete is right, up here this is also played on a regular basis) Love Her Madly / Roadhouse Blues / Touch Me - The Doors What's New Pussycat - Tom Jones

Stop! In the Name of Love is one I've heard too many times on oldies stations as well. I've never been as fond of it as most of their other hits, and the overplay didn't help.

Anything by The Eagles Stairway To Heaven I Want To Hold Your Hand Anything By Toto Unchained Melody More Than A Feeling Old Time Rock And Roll Anything by Santana Well, Railyn, I'm glad to see that the oldies station in your area has good enough taste to play a lot of Eagles. I can't get enough Eagles. I'm surprised to see that they play I Want To Hold Your hand that much. I thought that oldies stations were starting to ignore mid-60s British Invasion music.

The stations here are notorious for playing Evil Ways, Oye Como Va and Black Magic Woman over and over. They're great songs, but it's getting to be a little too much of a good thing.

Another to add to my list: The Emotions' Best of My Love. Honestly, I think I hear it more often now than I did in '77 when it was current!

Here's a station that seems to be getting it right: KDSK out of New Mexico. Mark and I listened to this as long as we could get the signal when we were making our drive across country two years ago, and were very impressed with their variety. It's claimed that they have over 7000 songs on their playlist. I looked them up recently, and they have an online stream at: www.kdsk.com/index.htm . They just played Eddie Cochran's Jeannie, Jeannie, Jeannie and are currently playing Neil Diamond's Forever in Blue Jeans.
