One might think that it was MTV that started the whole "image" thing in music. But how about artists who simply carry an air of "coolness" to them when they perform on stage? Duran Duran had the image, but were they truly cool? Cool can be defined as somone who just presents him or herself as a larger than life figure without the need to go over the top. One performer I can think of as "cool" (at least in my opinion) would be Keith Richards. As would Freddy Mercury from Queen. Not really much for wild antics on stage, but just the presence and the way they carry themselves, they truly stand out. So....can anybody out there add to this discussion?

Robert Palmer (RIP)
Didn't break a sweat all night in a 3 piece grey silk suit w/pink tie.
He oozed "cool".

Here's a few I'd like to add:
Bruce Springsteen Otis Redding U2 John Kay of Steppenwolf Aerosmith Smokey Robinson
I had the opportunity to see John Kay two years ago. For a guy 63 - at the time - he is still a commanding presence.
