Mom's "Colossal C Artists" Mix
1. Rosemary Clooney-"In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening" 2. Gary Chapman-"We Can" 3. Cher-"You Wouldn't Know Love" 4. Jude Cole-"Worlds Apart" 5. Vanessa Carlton-"Unsung" 6. Steven Curtis Chapman-"For the Sake of the Call" 7. Bruce Cockburn-"All the Diamonds in the World" 8. Michael Card-"Starkindler" 9. Michael Cretu-"Carte Blanche" 10. Nat King Cole-"Babs" 11. Caedmon's Call-"Close of Autumn" 12. Crawler-"Stone Cold Sober" 13. Collective Soul-"When the Water Falls" 14. Phil Collins-"Something Happened on the Way to Heaven" 15. Marc Cohn-"Walking in Memphis" 16. Natalie Cole-"Straighten Up and Fly Right" 17. Creedence Clearwater Revival-"Have You Ever Seen the Rain" 18. Mary Chapin Carpenter-"Halley Came to Jackson" 19. Tom Cochrane-"Life is a Highway"
Most likely I'll do D next and then skip over to G 'cause I'm not sure I have enough E's and F's yet. When I was doing these on cassettes, I had A, B, C, D, G, H, L, M, P, S, T, W, and any names with numbers in them. (I didn't do the cassettes in alphabetical order--in fact, A was the last one I did.)

when i did my "ABC's OF ROCK" tapes a few years ago, i had to combine certain less popular letters such as H & I on one tape, J & K on one tape, N & O, etc...some of the more popular letters like A, B, C, D, etc. i was able do a whole tape on by themselves.
STONE COLD SOBER by CRAWLER's a great "lost classic"!

You know what was funny? I did a search for Crawler on YouTube, and I didn't find diddly-squat on them. But...I did find a video called "Little Crawler" that shows a baby crawling. I decided to watch it, since I'm such a sucker for babies. It was soooooo cute! (The mom has put up several videos of her baby girl, so you can see her grow and see the things she's learning to do.) That's always interesting when you find something neat while looking for something else. I have mixed emotions about songs being "lost classics". On the one hand, why do the radio stations "lose" them?!?!? But on the other hand, at least this means they're not being played into the ground, like many "non-lost" classics have been. I must tell you a cute story about the #9 song on the CD, "Carte Blanche" by Michael Cretu: The first time I listened to the CD, I wasn't looking at the song titles, and it sounded like he was singing, "Got lunch"!

...Oh, and in addition to the mix tapes I mentioned in my first message, I did 2 mix tapes of classical music--one where all the composers' names started with B and one where all they started with S. I'm planning to do some CD's like that too.

I'll tell you when I do the CD's. I think I still have all the tapes somewhere--but they don't have all the same things on them that are on the CD's I've been making. (For one thing, the tapes are 60 min.; the CD's are 80 min.) I am rather frustrated because I can't get these CD's to come out perfectly the first time! There's always a skip on it or something the first time I do it. And you know what I hate? You can't record over CD's like you can over tapes (at least not that I know of). So I've had to throw out a bunch of CD's because they didn't record properly. If CD's are supposed to be so much more advanced than tapes (and they do hold up better and sound better), THEN WHY THE H311 CAN'T WE RECORD OVER THEM LIKE WE CAN WITH CASSETTES? AAAAAAA!!!!! (sorry for yelling)

Laura, Props to you for being so organized! I am still working on trying alphabetize close to 800 CD's. Well it's not as bad as I make it out to be. But to answer your question about recordable CD's. I have been working in music retail for some time. A couple of years ago CD-RW's were introduced to the public. This allowed the consumer to repeatedly record over the material on a CD. Similarly, the DVD-RW was introduced as well. This let customers rerecord their favorite TV shows as much as as desired. The rewriteable format or RW - as is came to be know - had problems taking off. One reason, some DVD players and some computers didn't have the rewriteable capabilities. Two, CD-RW's are more expensive than the CD-R's. Lastly, the recordable media is given way to computer hard drives and ones you can obtain from your local cable company to record your favorite TV programs. The store I work at still does sell CD-RW and DVD-RW's, but I can't remember the last time I sold one to a customer. Have fun making mix CD's! I look forward to your next mix.

Me? Organized? You haven't seen my house! Actually my CD's aren't in alphabetical order (although they were once), but I do have 'em where I can find 'em easily. So yeah, they're sort of organized, but not alphabetized. I don't know how many CD's I have, but probably not as many as you have. I don't think my blank CD's are CD-RW's. I think they're just CD-R's.

I've never used CD-RWs, but I have quite a few DVD-RWs; they're nice for transferring TV shows and movies to the computer for editing, and I also use them for transferring files back and forth between my old computer and new one.
I have read that a lot of people experienced errors when they tried to burn CD-RWs, which may be another reason they didn't take off well.
Laura, what speed are you burning the CD-Rs at? I've heard that the faster you burn, the more likely that errors will occur. I usually burn mine at 8x, and rarely have a problem. Also, I've had better luck burning CDs using Roxio rather than Windows Media Player.

Hmmm. I use Roxio too. I don't know what speed it is--I will have to check. Right now my 'puter is in the shop (I'm using the one at work now). It was slowing down, and finally it would just beep and then turn off whenever I tried to turn it on. So maybe when I get it back, I will no longer have this problem. Thanks for the advice!
