I'll take the late, great Marvin Gaye's version.

I'll take the late, great Marvin Gaye's version. I'm with you, Gramps! This song is the primary exception to my "heard it first" rule. I heard Gladys' version first, but never cared much for it. And I never could get used to John C.'s "I hoid it ..." I consider Marvin's version the number one example of sixties soul.

All three versions are great, since I can only pick one, I'll go with CCR.

I'm going with Marvin Gaye. (No California Raisins?) ;D I had totally forgotten about the California Raisins. (Or maybe I had just supressed the memory.)

I've gone back and forth over the years about which of these versions I like best. But as of today, I'm going to pick Marvin Gaye's.
