In honor of Independence Day weekend, how about this little gem from 1970s Saturday morning TV? www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvH7ySQi37ELOL at the signs the characters are holding at around the :53 mark.

LOL! That was great! Those Schoolhouse Rock cartoons sure bring back memories. I rented the DVD from my local Blockbuster video not long after it was released. It was a real treat to see them again.

That's wonderful! You know, I'm a child of the seventies and a Schoolhouse Rock fan, and I gotta tell you, I don't remember this one! But it's nevertheless very cool. Thanks for sharing this gem.

Yes, I was pretty excited when they finally released those. They were one of my favorite things about Saturday morning TV. Even today, whenever I hear Conjunction Junction, it takes me right back to the first time I heard it, in 1973. Fond memories!

I didn't remember this one as well as some of the others either; I'm guessing they didn't run it all that often. Of the "America Rock" cartoons, The Preamble is the one I remember seeing the most, along with The Great American Melting Pot and I'm Just A Bill. That Preamble cartoon came in very handy when I had to take the Virginia state competency exam in government before I graduated high school. In one of the questions, we had to write out the Preamble, which wasn't hard to do, thanks to all those years of hearing that Preamble ditty! I remember looking up at one point and seeing some of the other students across the room silently mouthing that song as they wrote! LOL! ;D

We actually bought the DVD set, and my daughters both thoroughly enjoy them! My youngest loves "Suffering Before Suffrage" and my oldest loves "Figure Eight".
As for pitifully nostalgic me, every time I hear "Three is a Magic Number", I'm a seven year old farm kid watching cartoons again...

Did you remember to add "of the United States" after "We the people..." since that part wasn't used in the song?

I also have the VHS tapes that came out in the mid '90s, but the DVD has some extra features. It's very cool that your daughters are enjoying the Schoolhouse Rock cartoons as well, as they are timeless and a great aid in learning. Figure Eight is a favorite of mine as well. I always thought the melody might have been based on a classical piece, but according to a book I have on Schoolhouse Rock, it was especially written for that short.

Here's one I remember seeing quite often on Saturday mornings: www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2iLAI0gUW0Kinda surprising that the Beatles and the Monkees were considered "oldie-goldies" in 1973!!

I wasn't born when "Schoolhouse Rock" was brand spanking new, but I too am a huge fan. Back in the eighties, most of my cartoon watching was done on ABC, so I'd see Schoolhouse Rock segments all the time!

I'm dyslexic, so Schoolhouse Rock gave me a visual to keep things straight. My mom loved them for it.
Plus, Multiplication Rock taught New Math like we were learning in school, but New Math really screwed me up.
Anyway, here is my very favorite:
These would be a close second (I can't pick):
I have the DVD, a book about Schoolhouse Rock (gift from Brenda one Christmas), The 4 disc CD set (LOVE IT), and little bendable figures (I'm Just A Bill, and Conjunction Junction).
I had the VHS, but when I got the DVD (which had songs that weren't on the VHS due to copyright issues), I donated the VHS to my cousin, who teaches elementary school and special ed. Her kids love them, and they help them.

I also wasn't around when Schoolhouse Rock was new, but I watched lots of cartoons on ABC in the 80's so I saw them in "reruns"...

I didn't know they had the little figures - that's pretty cool! Do you know if they were available for all the cartoons, or just certain ones?
