Here's a feature idea I thought might be fun to try out. Every few days or so, I'll list a group of songs (primarily Top 40 hits and better-known album cuts). Give each song a numerical rating according to how much you like the track, and when all the responses are in, we'll average out the results and see how the songs stack up among the Click. Here's the scale:
5.0 - A song you absolutely love, one of your absolute favorites 4.0 - While not quite top-tier, a song you enjoy a lot 3.0 - Not a favorite, but you basically like it 2.0 - A"meh" song, you could take it or leave it 1.0 - Yikes! Turn that song off! ;D
I'll include a mix of styles and eras in each grouping. Here's the first batch:
Please Mr. Postman - Marvelettes 3.0 (good song, but The Beatles and The Carpenters' versions were better IMO)
I'm Your Boogie Man - KC and the Sunshine Band 4.0
Name - Goo Goo Dolls 2.0 (I liked it better before it was so overplayed)
Neutron Dance - Pointer Sisters 2.5
The Beat Goes On - Sonny & Cher 3.5
Junior's Farm - Paul McCartney & Wings 4.5
Refugee - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 4.0
Sowing the Seeds of Love - Tears for Fears 5.0 (awesome; lots of Beatle-esque touches)
Let's Twist Again - Chubby Checker 3.5
Mary, Mary - Monkees 4.0
Watching the Wheels - John Lennon 4.5
Mother and Child Reunion - Paul Simon 3.0
Wicked Game - Chris Isaak - 3.5
Invisible Touch - Genesis 1.5 (love their earlier stuff, but they were starting to "jump the shark" by this time)
Wildfire - Michael Martin Murphey 4.5

Please Mr. Postman - Marvelettes 3.0 (I'm not familiar w/ the Marvelette's version, but I'll give it a 3.0 because I like the Beatle version.) I'm Your Boogie Man - KC and the Sunshine Band 3.0 Name - Goo Goo Dolls N/A (I'm not familiar w/it) Neutron Dance - Pointer Sisters 2.0 The Beat Goes On - Sonny & Cher 3.0 Junior's Farm - Paul McCartney & Wings 4.8 1/2 Refugee - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 3.0 Sowing the Seeds of Love - Tears for Fears 4.5 (This song was popular at the time I met my husband and I once claimed this as "our song", so I've got a sentimental attachment to it. An added point for being a cool song.) Let's Twist Again - Chubby Checker 2.0 Mary, Mary - Monkees 4.5 Watching the Wheels - John Lennon 4.5 Mother and Child Reunion - Paul Simon (N/A: Not familiar with it) Wicked Game - Chris Isaak - (N/A: Not familiar with it) Invisible Touch - Genesis 3.0 Wildfire - Michael Martin Murphey 2.5 (This song always makes me feel sad, but I'll give it an extra half point for being a well written song)

Please Mr. Postman - Marvelettes - 4.O Prefer The Beatles version, but still an amazing track (I'm Your Boogie Man - KC and the Sunshine Band 4.0 Name - Goo Goo Dolls 4.0 Yes. it was overplayed at the time, but I don't here it anywhere near as much now, so I can enjoy it more these days. Neutron Dance - Pointer Sisters 2.5 Wasn't a big fan of the song, it's ok. The Beat Goes On - Sonny & Cher 4.0 I've always found this to be very enjoyable Junior's Farm - Paul McCartney & Wings - 5.0 Among Paul's best rockers! Refugee - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - 5.0 Like it just as much now as I did back in '79 / '80. Sowing the Seeds of Love - Tears for Fears 5.0 A definite highlight from the bands catalogue of tunes. Let's Twist Again - Chubby Checker 4.0 Overplayed? yeah probably, but I still love it. Mary, Mary - Monkees 5.0 A huge Monkees fave! Watching the Wheels - John Lennon - 5.0 An incredible song! Mother and Child Reunion - Paul Simon 4.0 Wicked Game - Chris Isaak 3.5 I remember this video was really overplayed, it's still an ok tune, but there are other songs by Chris that I like better. Invisible Touch - Genesis 4.0 I give this a spin every so often , and still like it very much. Wildfire - Michael Martin Murphey - 4.5

Sowing the Seeds of Love - A very cool one to have as your and your hubby's song! Mark's and mine is the Pet Shop Boys' West End Girls...not so much lyrically, but it was popular in spring 1986 when we met and it always reminds me of our first dates.

A lot of Tom Petty's music has a timeless quality to it, and sounds just as good now as it did back then. Watching the Wheels is a big favorite of mine, too. #9 Dream and Mind Games just barely edge it out for me, but I love all three songs a lot.

Please Mr. Postman - Marvelettes 2.75 The Marvelettes were probably my least favorite of the Motown groups. This was one of their better songs though. I prefer the Beatles version, simply because that version sounds like - The Beatles. Never cared for the Carpenters version.
I'm Your Boogie Man - KC and the Sunshine Band 2.0 I never liked these guys. OK to dance to, but I don't dance while I'm riding in my car.
Name - Goo Goo Dolls 3.5 My son introduced me to this song probably around 2000. Not bad.
Neutron Dance - Pointer Sisters 3.0 Mediocre.
The Beat Goes On - Sonny & Cher 1.5 Sonny and Cher had one fantastic song, IMO - "I Got You Babe". All others were OK or lower. This song was just annoying.
Junior's Farm - Paul McCartney & Wings 3.5 - Good song, but not their best.
Refugee - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 4.25 A year ago, I'd have given this a 3.25, but I've been 'rediscovering' a lot of Petty's stuff, and liking it more.
Sowing the Seeds of Love - Tears for Fears 4.0 I'm only familar with their four big hits. I think they're all very good, and I like them all equally.
Let's Twist Again - Chubby Checker 3.25 I like it more for the memories of Freshman year in College, than for it being any great masterpiece.
Mary, Mary - Monkees 4.0 - I really liked that entire album.
Watching the Wheels - John Lennon 3.25 OK, but the weakest of his posthumous hits.
Mother and Child Reunion - Paul Simon 2.25 I just never "got" this song.
Wicked Game - Chris Isaak - 2.75 So-so. Never got me excited.
Invisible Touch - Genesis 2.0 Eh.
Wildfire - Michael Martin Murphey 4.75 Beautiful, mysterious song. When I finally finish my top 500, this will be just in or just out.

I do like some songs quite a bit, but others leave me scratching my head. I wasn't too fond of the Graceland era stuff from him especially. Looking forward to seeing your Top 500!

Please Mr. Postman - Marvelettes 3.0 I'm Your Boogie Man - KC and the Sunshine Band 2.5 Name - Goo Goo Dolls N/A (don't know it) Neutron Dance - Pointer Sisters 1.0 The Beat Goes On - Sonny & Cher 3.0 Junior's Farm - Paul McCartney & Wings 4.5 Refugee - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 4.0 Sowing the Seeds of Love - Tears for Fears 2.0 Let's Twist Again - Chubby Checker 2.5 Mary, Mary - Monkees 2.0 Watching the Wheels - John Lennon 3.5 Mother and Child Reunion - Paul Simon 3.0 Wicked Game - Chris Isaak N/A (don't know it) Invisible Touch - Genesis 2.0 Wildfire - Michael Martin Murphey 1.0 So far it's looking like Neutron Dance is going to be one of our lowest-rated songs. I used to like it more, but these days it just seems too "fluffy". Unfortunately, a lot of the mid-to-late '80s stuff isn't aging as well as earlier music. You, Ed and I have similar thoughts about Invisible Touch!
