Mark and I were able to meet Brian Wilson! Well, to the degree that you can really "meet" someone at a signing since time is so limited, but still, it was way cool! We have seen Brian multiple times in concert since 2004, but we never had the opportunity to get an autograph up until now. Mark had heard on the KLOS radio station last week that Brian was going to be signing copies of That Lucky Old Sun at Guitar Center. I checked their website, and found out that he was going to be doing several signings this weekend, two in the L.A. area on Saturday and one in La Mesa (San Diego suburb) on Sunday. We decided to go to the La Mesa one, figuring it would be less rushed and hectic. We got there a little before 1:00, when the signing was scheduled to start. There were about 50 people in line ahead of us, and they were only letting in five people at a time, so we had a bit of a wait. After we were let in, we bought a copy of Brian's new DVD for him to sign. It turns out that if you bought the DVD, Brian would sign two other items for you as well. I hadn't known that before, or else I would have brought an LP and/or book for him to autograph also. Brian was seated at a table in the back of the store, with band member Jeff Foskett beside him. When we got to the front of the line, Mark gave the DVD for Brian to sign, and Brian joked a bit with him, saying "Straight ahead, straight ahead." I must admit to being a bit awestruck and a bit at a loss for words, but did manage to say, "It's good to see you Brian," and a hello to Jeff. After Brian finished signing, he and Jeff posed for a picture that Mark took. Brian looked a bit tired - I imagine such an event would be a little overwhelming considering his shyness - but seemed to be in generally good spirits. Here is the picture that Mark snapped: I'm very happy that Brian decided to do this signing, and that we were able to attend. Mark is a big fan of Brian's as well, so he was pretty tickled also. I will cherish that autograph!

(Although you shouldn't have posted it here; it's far too big!)

Oh Dawn, that is SO COOL! I know the excitement of being able to be up close like that with someone you love and idolize (and how tongue tying it can be, too), but you did it! You met Brian!!!! I wish you guys could have gotten a picture taken together, but this is really neat.

I wish you guys could have gotten a picture taken together, but this is really neat. Thanks Nance! I agree, it would have been great to have been in the picture (although, given my two past experiences with having a picture taken with musicians, I'd probably manage to have a goofy expression on my face).
