5.0 - A song you absolutely love, one of your absolute favorites 4.0 - While not quite top-tier, a song you enjoy a lot 3.0 - Not a favorite, but you basically like it 2.0 - A "meh" song, you could take it or leave it 1.0 - Yikes! Turn that song off! **************************************************** Drive - Cars 3.75 (this was so different from the other songs I knew from them at the time. Not quite as much of a fave as it once was, but I still like it) Stop Stop Stop - Hollies 3.0 You're My Best Friend - Queen 4.5 (my favorite by them, an all-around great single) Runaway - Del Shannon 3.5 Everybody Have Fun Tonight - Wang Chung 2.5 (one of those songs I have to be in the mood for) If I Needed Someone - Beatles 5.0 (I remember this from way back, listening to my parents' copy of Yesterday and Today. Love it) Let Me Be There - Olivia Newton-John 3.75 (used to love singing along with this) Come Go With Me - Exposé 1.5 More Love - Smokey Robinson & the Miracles 4.25 (always liked this one, and Kim Carnes' remake as well) Jive Talkin' - Bee Gees 5.0 Don't Stand So Close to Me - Police 4.0 Someday We'll Be Together - Supremes 3.5 Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac 4.25 Have I Told You Lately - Rod Stewart 2.0 (I really like Rod's earlier work, but he kind of lost me here) The Girl I Knew Somewhere - Monkees 4.6

Drive - Cars 3.0 Stop Stop Stop - Hollies 4.0 You're My Best Friend - Queen 3.0 Runaway - Del Shannon 3.0 Everybody Have Fun Tonight - Wang Chung 2.0 If I Needed Someone - Beatles 5.0 (When I hear this song, I think of laying on my bed on a drizzly Saturday afternoon back in the early 80s, with not much else to do but dream and listen to the Beatles.) Let Me Be There - Olivia Newton-John 4.0 (Total sunshine song. Reminds me of a summer morning as a child.) Come Go With Me - Exposé (Not familiar w/ this) More Love - Smokey Robinson & the Miracles 3.0 Jive Talkin' - Bee Gees 5.0 (This song reminds me of being in L.A. during the mid-70s, driving around in my uncle's Mustang with no a/c. Haha. Actually, I love the song because, well....it's so cool. I used to have this on a CD set.) Don't Stand So Close to Me - Police 5.0 (This reminds me so much of a young teacher I once had a HUGE crush on, who was also a fan of the Police. I always thought he influenced me greatly with my career decision.) Someday We'll Be Together - Supremes 3.0 Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac 4.0 (Good bouncy song.) Have I Told You Lately - Rod Stewart 1.0 (I like very few RS songs, and as time progressed, I liked him less.) The Girl I Knew Somewhere - Monkees 5.0 (Absolute sunshine. Drive - Cars 4.0 The lyrics are quite dark, which is something I didn't really notice the first couple of times I listened to it. Stop Stop Stop - Hollies 4.0 You're My Best Friend - Queen 4.5 John Deacon wrote some great material for the band. Runaway - Del Shannon 4.3 Hearing the soundtrack of "American Graffiti" around the age of seven made me aware of not only Del Shannon, but Buddy Holly, Fats Domino etc. I loved it! Everybody Have Fun Tonight - Wang Chung 3.1 I got tired of the video, pretty quickly, the song was ok, kind of catchy, I don't mind hearing it occasionally If I Needed Someone - Beatles 5.0 I'm a huge fan of the Rickenbacker 12 string and that jangly sound, a classic! One of my all - time favorites of George. Let Me Be There - Olivia Newton-John 3.9 Heard this many times, we has the 45 in the house, a good one, more childhood memories. Come Go With Me - Exposé 1.0 I was aware of the name at the time, but I never heard any of their material that I know of, I found and listened to an audio clip of this and I just never liked any of that 80's dance stuff, it all sounded the same More Love - Smokey Robinson & the Miracles 4.0 I haven't heard this, in quite sometime, I really like it! Jive Talkin' - Bee Gees 4.0 I bought the 45 back in '75 and played it a lot, I still give it a spin every so often. Don't Stand So Close to Me - Police 4.0 Someday We'll Be Together - Supremes 3.5 Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac 5.0 Have I Told You Lately - Rod Stewart 2.5 Dawn, like you I think his early solo stuff including his work with The Faces is fantastic, it's just incredible classic stuff. However starting in the early 80's up until now he has fallen into "MOR" territory. The one exception IMO was his cover of Oasis" "Cigarettes and Alcohol" from '98 which I really, really liked, he hadn't rocked that hard since 1977, however sadly it didn't last. The Girl I Knew Somewhere - Monkees 5.0 Excellent tune, among Nesmith's best.

Drive - Cars 4.1 Really like this one Stop Stop Stop - Hollies 3.3 It has the great Hollies harmony, but not at the top of my list. You're My Best Friend - Queen 4.8 5 years ago, , it didn't make my top 250. Now, it will likely be in the top 100. It has really grown on me. Runaway - Del Shannon 4.95 All time #17. A song that proves that the early '60s had some great music - and great memories. Everybody Have Fun Tonight - Wang Chung 2.8 At 2.8, I like it more than it deserves. If I Needed Someone - Beatles 4.0 Not my fave Beatles. But it IS - The Beatles! Let Me Be There - Olivia Newton-John 3.5 I used to always sing along with the guy singing bass. Come Go With Me - Exposé 1.0 Nope More Love - Smokey Robinson & the Miracles 3.5 Good but not his best. Jive Talkin' - Bee Gees 3.4 Close to the bottom for my all time #2 group. Don't Stand So Close to Me - Police 3.5 Every Breath You Take was really about a stalker; what's this one about? A close-talker? Someday We'll Be Together - Supremes 3.3 That guy who sang a few mumbled answers was annoying Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac 3.8 Sounds too much like others of theirs Have I Told You Lately - Rod Stewart 1.5 Rod should not sing the old standards! The Girl I Knew Somewhere - Monkees 4.5 In my top 500 and my favorite by them

Their most sensitive ballad and Ric Ocasic didn't sing lead. I was in the eighth grade when this was released. Stop, Stop, Stop - The Hollies. I haven't heard the song yet! You're My Best Friend - Queen 4.5 A love song done in Queen's unique style! Runaway - Del Shannon 4.25 Great tune from the 1961. It still holds up to this day. Everybody Have Fun Tonight - Wang Chung 2.75 This was a huge hit when I was in high school. Liked it then, but it hasn't aged quite as well. If I Needed Someone - The Beatles 5.0 Great song from Revolver CD. George was starting to hone his songwriting in the Beatles. Let Me Be There - Olivia Newton-John 3.0 Olivia's early stuff is very rooted in country music. Good melody. Reminds me of when I was a little boy. Come Go With Me - Expose' 3.0 Reminds me of high school dances. I have Expose's greatest hits CD. I have a soft spot for 80's dance music More Love - Smokey Robinson & the Miracles 4.0 One of my favorite Motown artists. A phenomenal songwriter as well! It has a great groove. Jive Talkin' - Bee Gees 4.25 This began the Bee Gees affair with disco music. Love the bass line in the song. Very infectious! ;D Don't Stand So Close To Me - Police 5.0 Always loved this song. Sting had a great lyric He starts to shake He starts to cough Just like the old man In the famous book by Narbokov
Sting was a former English teacher. You can tell his love of literature in this tune. Someday We'll Be Together - Diana Ross & The Supremes 5.0 The last song Ms. Ross did with the group before embarking on a solo career. My favorite Supremes song! I used to spin this when I worked Sat. nights at an AM station. Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac 4.0 Lindsey's kiss-off to Stevie Nicks. Love Buckingham's guitar lick! Have I Told You Lately - Rod Stewart 3.0 While I'm more partial to the 70's stuff. I enjoy the "unplugged" version which was Rod's last top ten hit. The Girl I Knew Somewhere - Monkees I think this is on my greatest hits compilation. But I am not familiar with it. Shame on me!

It's not a bad song, but not quite in the league of Bus Stop or Long Cool Woman. That Yahoo article sounds interesting. It does seem like quite a few artists did jump the shark in the '80s and '90s.

When I hear this, I'm making love beads and painting my room as a teenager---- That is so cool about the teacher who was a mentor! It's amazing how much of an impact a good teacher can make. Many of my teachers were ok, not particularly exceptional, but there are a few who really stood out, that I remember fondly. I agree, The Girl I Knew Somewhere does have a great sunshiny quality. That's a song that goes way back for me - my parents had the 45 of A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You when I was little, and I used to love listening to both sides. It's still one of my Monkees faves.

Great harmonies, too. You're right about the '80s dance stuff all sounding similar. At one time I kinda liked some of it, but now I listen to it and it just seems too same-y and fluffy.

The Girl I Knew Somewhere - Monkees 4.5 In my top 500 and my favorite by them You're My Best Friend is a great track. It's a little more pop-oriented than most of their other songs, but it's very well done, and Freddie is in fine voice. That's cool about your singing along with Let Me Be There too! I'm not the greatest singer, but actually don't sound too bad when I sing it. Next time we get together, we'll have to do a karaoke of it!

Olivia's earlier, more country-styled hits seem to be overlooked these days, which is a shame, as she could sing that style very well. I agree about Everybody Have Fun Tonight not aging well. It was catchy at the time, and still is in a way, but it's not one I care to hear that often anymore.

Drive - Cars 3 I remember thinking that the girl in the video either was mentally disturbed or a really good actress.(I'm hoping for the latter.)

You're My Best Friend - Queen 3,5
Runaway - Del Shannon 3
Everybody Have Fun Tonight - Wang Chung 2.5
If I Needed Someone - Beatles Don't know this one.
Let Me Be There - Olivia Newton-John 3.5 One of the best of her "country" period.
Come Go With Me - Exposé Don't remember this one.
More Love - Smokey Robinson & the Miracles 3.5 OK, but tempered by the fact that--per his autobiography--Smokey wrote it for his wife after they lost twin girls(born prematurely, died shortly afterwards).
Jive Talkin' - Bee Gees 3.5
Don't Stand So Close to Me - Police 4
Someday We'll Be Together - Supremes 3.
