Our scale: 5.0 - A song you absolutely love, one of your absolute favorites 4.0 - While not quite top-tier, a song you enjoy a lot 3.0 - Not a favorite, but you basically like it 2.0 - A "meh" song, you could take it or leave it 1.0 - Yikes! Turn that song off! The Logical Song - Supertramp 4.2 Blueberry Hill - Fats Domino 3.5 We'll Sing in the Sunshine - Gale Garnett 3.75 (I remember hunting high and low for this 45 back in the '90s. Finally found it in a consignment shop!) Sunglasses at Night - Corey Hart 4.5 (loved this back in the day. Great memories of summer '84) Love Train - O'Jays 3.8 (The Lights Went Out in) Massachusetts - Bee Gees 4.25 (one of my favorite earlier-period songs from them) Time Out of Mind - Steely Dan 4.75 (love this one from Gaucho) Torn Between Two Lovers - Mary McGregor 2.25 Fun, Fun, Fun - Beach Boys 4.0 Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benatar 3.5 (a little tired of this from hearing it so often over the years, but Pat always sounds fabulous) Spooky - Classics IV 5.0 (absolutely wonderful. Love the Mike Sharpe and Atlanta Rhythm Section versions too) Broken Wings - Mr. Mister 3.5 At the Hop - Danny & the Juniors 3.75 Whatcha Gonna Do? - Pablo Cruise 4.0 Biggest Part of Me - Ambrosia 5.0 (always liked it, but have grown to love it more in recent years)

The Logical Song - Supertramp 4.0 Blueberry Hill - Fats Domino 4.5 We'll Sing in the Sunshine - Gale Garnett 3.5 I remember hearing this when I was little. Love Train - O'Jays 4.5 (The Lights Went Out in) Massachusetts - Bee Gees 4.25 Really good stuff from Barry, Robin and Maurice. Their early material was phenomenal. Time Out of Mind - Steely Dan 4.8 Torn Between Two Lovers - Mary McGregor 1.0 An awful song on every level, I still remember the first time I heard it back in '77, it still makes me cringe to this day "shudder" Fun, Fun, Fun - Beach Boys 4.0 Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benatar 3.5 Spooky - Classics IV 5.0 Broken Wings - Mr. Mister 3.8 At the Hop - Danny & the Juniors 4.0 Whatcha Gonna Do? - Pablo Cruise 4.0 Biggest Part of Me - Ambrosia 5.0

The Logical Song - Supertramp 4.5 I love this song! Top 500! Blueberry Hill - Fats Domino 4.0 A high rating primarily for the memories. This was 1956, guys. I was only 12 years old! We'll Sing in the Sunshine - Gale Garnett 2.5 I actually have a spare 45 of this one if anyone needs it. This is better than a 2.5 as a song - but while I was in college, there was some idiot playing this on the jukebox in the student union day in, day out, all day long. Sunglasses at Night - Corey Hart 3.5 Decent Love Train - O'Jays 3.5 See above (The Lights Went Out in) Massachusetts - Bee Gees 4.0 Good song. Several early ones that I like better, but a good song. Major knock on it is that it's too short. Time Out of Mind - Steely Dan X.X Don't think I remember this one. Torn Between Two Lovers - Mary McGregor 3.0 OK Fun, Fun, Fun - Beach Boys 3.9 Used to like this more in the day than now, but still a good song. Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benatar 3.3 Good song Spooky - Classics IV 3.7 This was a very good group. Like this one a lot, about the same amount as Stormy but not as much as Traces. Broken Wings - Mr. Mister 2.8 It's pretty, but it has some religious overtones and that's a turn-off for me. At the Hop - Danny & the Juniors 3.6 Some great memories, but the song is basically the same song as Rock And Roll Is Here To Stay, and that one is a Genie. Whatcha Gonna Do? - Pablo Cruise 3.0 Decent Biggest Part of Me - Ambrosia 4.1 Amberosia? Like Amber Washington? I didn't know she'd been singiing that long. ;D Real good song. But tell me - does anyone else think that Ambrosia, Firefall and the Little River Band all sound alike?

The Logical Song - Supertramp 3.5 (When this song first came out, I remember being so puzzled by the lyrics. My sister had purchased the 45 of it and played it over and over on her little record player. As I got older, the song somehow began to make more sense, especially in those teenage "angst" years.)
Blueberry Hill - Fats Domino 2.5
We'll Sing in the Sunshine - Gale Garnett 3.0 (This one reminds me of Helen Reddy singing it on the Muppet Show. I never really listened to the lyrics until now.... Wow.)
Sunglasses at Night - Corey Hart 3.0
Love Train - O'Jays 3.5
(The Lights Went Out in) Massachusetts - Bee Gees 3.0
Time Out of Mind - Steely Dan 5.0 (One of my fave SD songs)
Torn Between Two Lovers - Mary McGregor 3.0 (Another total childhood memory song)
Fun, Fun, Fun - Beach Boys 4.0
Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benatar 2.5
Spooky - Classics IV 5.0 (Definitely a fave)
Broken Wings - Mr. Mister 1.0
At the Hop - Danny & the Juniors 3.0
Whatcha Gonna Do? - Pablo Cruise 3.0
Biggest Part of Me - Ambrosia 5.0 (I've always adored this one.)

I've been discovering their earlier albums over the past few years, and have really liked what I've heard. It's amazing how consistently good they were throughout the years. I used to like Torn Between Two Lovers a little more, and I gave it a few fractions of a point for childhood memories' sake, but now it's a song I want to hear only very occasionally.

Yikes, I agree that hearing We'll Sing in the Sunshine that many times would definitely get old quick. LOL about Ambrosia! I think you're right that there is quite a bit of similarity between those groups and Ambrosia, especially with LRB. Player and Pablo Cruise are also similar in some ways.

It's amazing how well those Breakfast in America songs have held up over the years. There's something very timeless about them. I agree, Traces is another good Classics IV song. They didn't have a lot of hits, but the ones they did have are all very well done.

Same here about The Logical Song lyrics! At the time it was popular I liked all the rhyming wordplay, but it wasn't until I got older that I really understood the message. Time Out of Mind is one of my Steely favorites, too. Their music was so complex and polished, yet it sounded effortless. Amazing musicianship.

Howdy Dawn. Haven't listened to it in a long time. From the songs she wrote, she wanted to be a follk/bluesy singer. But all the songs were given the MOR/cocktail lounge/adult pop sound. "Sunshine" I think was the only song on the LP I liked (it's why I bought the album anyway).
FWIW, on a site I read, it's claimed the album version of "Sunshine" is ever-so-slightly more risque than the single version, the one played on the radio. Can't vouch for that til I get a record player.
