It's a classic - an ooverplayed classic.

I Just Want to Be Your Everything - Andy Gibb 2.8
Andy never had the appeal to me of his brothers. This was overplayed also.

Kiss - Prince 1.8
There are abiout three songs by Prince that I like. This is not one of them.

I Heard It Through the Grapevine - Marvin Gaye 4.3
On my All time top 250 at #235. Overplayed, yes, but it's by far the best interpretation of the song. This is the coolest soul!

Who Are You - Who 3.8
I've always liked this one, but now I'm hearing it too much on XM Classic Vinyl. It's another song that they are overplaying because of laziness or a misguided impression that everyone wants to hear the same songs over and over.

Karma Chameleon - Culture Club 4.0
A guilty pleasure. I've really liked this song ever since my son came home from Kindergarten singing Pamma, Pamma, Pamma, Pamma, Pamma Pa-mee-lee-oh!

Hello, I Love You - Doors 2.6
This song sounds like someone put a speed restrictor on it. It's so draggy!

Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Elton John & Kiki Dee 3.4
Brings me back to the weeks before Nancy and I were married in December '76. She had asked me to come to her school in an Atlanta suburb, with my guitar, and sing Christmas carols with her second graders. But they didn't want to sing Christmas carols; they wanted to sing "Double Breaking My Heart."

Wouldn't It Be Nice - Beach Boys 3.5
I love those classic Beach Boys harmonies, but the words "Wouldn't it be nice if we were older" has for some strange reason lost their appeal to me!

Just amazing, I still recall finding an original copy of the 45 back in the mid 80's and being extremely happy!

Everybody Wants to Rule the World - Tears for Fears 4.0 (A bit depressing, but nevertheless, a good song.)

Charlie Brown - Coasters 3.5

Scarborough Fair - Simon & Garfunkel 4.5 (Beautiful song that reminds me of a cool foggy morning in the early 70s---peaceful and sublime. It's also the first song I ever learned to play on my clarinet in elementary school and on my guitar.)

Love Will Keep Us Together - Captain & Tennille 4.0 (Another fun song from the mid-seventies. This one reminds me of a talent show my youth group put on at church, where 2 people got up and sang this as a duet. This was followed by my two sisters singing, "There's a Hole in the Bucket (Dear Liza)". Ahhh.....yes, the group "Sisters of Edehl's Sister" has a long history.)

Missing You - John Waite 2.0 (Reminds me of getting my braces tightened, circa 1987. My orthodontist always had this song playing.)

I like Hello, I Love You, but I too have noticed that it seems a little bit too "slowed down." Speeding it up just a little would have made it even better, I think.

That's cool about your singing with Nancy's class! I was in third grade at the time, and I remember that song was quite popular among my classmates as well. We used to bring 45s to school and play them on the classroom record player.

It's been only in the last couple of years that I found out about the Who Are You expletive - I'd never picked up on it. I guess it was subtle enough to have slipped through the censors.

I like the Doors' singles, but I agree that they were more of an album band.

I'll second you about the Prince song. I like some of his earlier stuff, but he pretty much lost me when Kiss came out. I think he was trying to be a little too avant-garde with some of those later hits.

Church of the Poisoned Mind does have a nice Motown feel, I agree. Boy George could sing in that style quite well.

That's very cool that Scarborough Fair was the first song you learned to play! Years ago, I bought a Simon and Garfunkel book of sheet music for the piano, and it was one of the songs included. I could play the melody, but could never quite master the left hand arpeggio chords. One of these days I'd like to start playing the piano more regularly.

Wow, I didn't realize SOES' music career dated that far back! Cool memory! I remember singing in a talent show once with a friend and her older brother when I was about 11. We sang Dave and Sugar's Golden Tears.
