Let's take a look at another round of songs. Our scale: 5.0 - A song you absolutely love, one of your absolute favorites 4.0 - While not quite top-tier, a song you enjoy a lot 3.0 - Not a favorite, but you basically like it 2.0 - A "meh" song, you could take it or leave it 1.0 - Yikes! Turn that song off! **************************************************** Cold As Ice - Foreigner 4.25 (I remember getting the 45 back in the day. I've always liked the alternating piano chords) Smooth Operator - Sade 4.0 I Think We're Alone Now - Tommy James & the Shondells 3.75 (I first knew this from one of those "HIT" Records soundalike 45s) Minute By Minute - Doobie Brothers 4.25 Hard to Say - Dan Fogelberg 3.4 (I like this, but not quite as much as some of his other hits) Don't Hang Up - Orlons 3.0 Turn the Beat Around - Vicki Sue Robinson 3.25 Nothin' At All - Heart 2.25 (Ann sings this well, but their post 1985 songs are very hit-and-miss with me) Along Comes Mary - Association 4.25 (for many years, this was my favorite Association song, until "Pandora" edged it out) Splish Splash - Bobby Darin 3.25 Nightingale - Carole King 5.0 (absolutely love this!!) Voices Carry - 'Til Tuesday 2.0 Western Union - Five Americans 4.25 (I remember playing this 45 over and over one Saturday morning back in the '70s) Reeling in the Years - Steely Dan 4.5 Faithfully - Journey 1.8

Cold As Ice - Foreigner 4.75 Great piano riff and super vocals from Lou Gramm. Smooth Operator - Sade 3.5 I Think We're Alone Now - Tommy James & the Shondels 3.0 Hard To Say - Dan Fogleberg 3.0 Don't Hang Up - Orlons I've never head this song! Turn The Beat Around - Vicki Sue Robinson 3.5 I had the 45 as kid. Great disco record! Nothin' At All - Heart 2.75 I agree with you Dawn. The music Ann & Nancy did in the 70's was more aggressive. Also, the band didn't write many of their hits in the 80's. Along Comes Mary - Association 3.75 I love the line "now my empty cup is as sweet as the punch." Splish Splash - Bobby Darin 2.90 This is a fun song, but hasn't aged so well for me. Nightingale - Carole King I'm not familiar with this one. Voices Carry - 'til Tuesday 4.0 So much talent. Sadly, it was the only major national hit for these Bostonians. Western Union - Five Americans 3.5 I don't hear this played on the local oldies station anymore. Reeling in the Years - Steely Dan 4.5 I'd like to hear more of the lesser known hits from these guys. Faithfully - Journey 2.0 Nice song, just heard it way to much growing up! There are better Journey songs.

Cold As Ice - Foreigner 4.5 (Nice hit from my youth)
Smooth Operator - Sade 2.0) "Shar-Day" never really moved me...sorry
I Think We're Alone Now - Tommy James & the Shondells 4.75 (This lost .25 after Tiffany butchered it...)
Minute By Minute - Doobie Brothers 4.0
Hard to Say - Dan Fogelberg 3.0 (This doesn't have the same meaning as his other hits)
Don't Hang Up - Orlons 2.0 Overrated--purely nostalgic revisionism
Turn the Beat Around - Vicki Sue Robinson 4.0 Great disco--and that is usually a contradiction in terms
Nothin' At All - Heart NA (I'm not remembering this one at al)
Along Comes Mary - Association 4.25 (great pop from a rather "light" group)
Splish Splash - Bobby Darin 3.75 (one of those songs that were great to listen to as a kid, but now...)
Nightingale - Carole King NA (Not ringing any bells)
Voices Carry - 'Til Tuesday 3.0 Great chorus--got 1.0 just for that
Western Union - Five Americans 4.00 (classic one hit wonder)
Reeling in the Years - Steely Dan 5.0 Terrific guitar
Faithfully - Journey--NA

There are better Journey songs. That line in Along Comes Mary is one of my favorites as well! I used to hear Western Union occasionally on the oldies stations, but not in the past two years or so. Sadly, it seems to be another song that's disappearing from their playlists.

In introducing the song, one of the band members said something like, "You know all those rumors you've heard about this song? Well, they're true!" Not sure if he was being serious or tongue-in-cheek, but thought it was pretty cool.

Agree about the Journey song. It's not bad exactly, but is a little too bland.

It does have a lot of punch, I agree. That's cool that you like Nothin' At All, Ken. It's interesting how on some of the songs, the rankings are kinda similar, but with others, they vary a lot among the 6 or so of us.

I just heard that Tiffany version of I Think We're Alone Now earlier this morning. Yikes! That's a good description of Hard to Say. It's pleasant enough, but doesn't seem quite as "deep" as his other hits.

I totally missed these! Cold As Ice - Foreigner 3.6 Good song but not their best. Smooth Operator - Sade 2.0 This one fits the "meh" category for me completely. I Think We're Alone Now - Tommy James & the Shondells 3.2 It seemed kind of a regression for Tommy back in the day. I mean he had basically just had a hit with "Hanky Panky" where he's saying my girl puts out. And now he and his girl are hiding like pre-adolescents. Minute By Minute - Doobie Brothers 3.5 Good one Hard to Say - Dan Fogelberg 3.2 Not his best Don't Hang Up - Orlons 3.1 Love the guy singing bass. The rest is just OK. Turn the Beat Around - Vicki Sue Robinson 3.0 Decent Nothin' At All - Heart 3.0 Ditto Along Comes Mary - Association 3.5 Pretty good. And yes, MC, I heard about the Mara-ja-hootchie also. Splish Splash - Bobby Darin 3.8 Great old rocker, buy a guy who became more of a lounge singer after this. Nightingale - Carole King 3.4 Decent song Voices Carry - 'Til Tuesday 2.3 It took me years to remember if it was Voices Carry by Til Tuesday or Til Tuesday by Voices Carry. Still can't remember sometimes - and I really don't care. Not a great song. Western Union - Five Americans 3.2 It's a good song, but I was never wild about it. Reeling in the Years - Steely Dan 3.0 I enjoy it, but have never been a Dan fan. Faithfully - Journey 4.0 Says "hair ballad" as much or more than any other song ever written. That is a good thing or a bad thing depending on your point of view. I've never minded hair ballads.

That bass singer is the best part of Don't Hang Up, I agree.
