Our scale: 5.0 - A song you absolutely love, one of your absolute favorites 4.0 - While not quite top-tier, a song you enjoy a lot 3.0 - Not a favorite, but you basically like it 2.0 - A "meh" song, you could take it or leave it 1.0 - Yikes! Turn that song off! **************************************************** Axel F - Harold Faltermeyer 3.0 (I used to love playing the riff on my keyboard. Sounds a tad dated today, but not a bad song) See You in September - Happenings 3.5 Emotion - Samantha Sang 4.0 I Missed Again - Phil Collins 5.0 (I absolutely love this. The horn section in this song is fantastic) Funky Broadway - Wilson Pickett 3.5 Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth) - George Harrison 4.2 (very nice one from George; love the guitar) Mony Mony - Billy Idol 1.0 (never liked this cover) You Don't Own Me - Lesley Gore 3.5 Come Sail Away - Styx 3.75 Live to Tell - Madonna 2.0 (very overplayed back in the day; I'm still tired of it!) We Can Work It Out - Beatles 4.75 (one of the first Beatles songs I knew. Still love it) To Know Him, is to Love Him - Teddy Bears 3.0 (probably the oldest 45 I own) Sara - Fleetwood Mac 4.0 Gimme Little Sign - Brenton Wood 3.5 What's Going On - Marvin Gaye 5.0

Axel F - Harold Faltermeyer 2.5 (This is like, the Beverly Hills Cop song. We ARE the 80s......)
See You in September - Happenings 3.5 (Sweet, innocent oldie)
Emotion - Samantha Sang 2.5 (Funny, I never knew a woman sang this song. I just thought it was one of the Bee Gees on an especially estrogen-filled trip to the recording booth...)
I Missed Again - Phil Collins 5.0 (I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! My favorite parts are the "I'm waiting in liiiiine....." and "Well it feels like something you want so bad..." segments. Great horns, too.)
Funky Broadway - Wilson Pickett 3.5 (Good stuff)
Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth) - George Harrison 4.5 (Sweet George.....)
Mony Mony - Billy Idol 1.0 (However, I LOVE Tommy James' original vers.)
You Don't Own Me - Lesley Gore 2.0 (Eh....)
Come Sail Away - Styx 4.0 (Good feeling song.)
Live to Tell - Madonna 1.0 (I've never been much into any of Madonna's songs, especially this.)
We Can Work It Out - Beatles 4.5 (Great song, can't help from singing right along!)
To Know Him, is to Love Him - Teddy Bears 3.0
Sara - Fleetwood Mac 3.0 (I like their upbeat stuff more)

Axel F - Harold Faltermeyer 2.0 I usually like instrumentals, bu this one just seems a bit monotonous to me. See You in September - Happenings 4.5 I first heard this one working at the Oldies station. Didn't know it was a remake for a long time! Emotion - Samantha Sang 3.0 I Missed Again - Phil Collins 1.0 This sounds so much like Phil's other hits from the era, IMO Funky Broadway - Wilson Pickett 3.5 Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth) - George Harrison Never heard this one, so I won't vote. Mony Mony - Billy Idol 4.0 I heard this one a lot when it was new, never knew it was a remake until I got older! You Don't Own Me - Lesley Gore 1.5 I don't really care for Lesley anyhow, but the Blow Monkeys cover of this was good... Come Sail Away - Styx 4.0 Live to Tell - Madonna 3.0 We Can Work It Out - Beatles 5.0 Love it! To Know Him, is to Love Him - Teddy Bears Never heard this one either! Sara - Fleetwood Mac 3.0 Gimme Little Sign - Brenton Wood 4.0 Another one I first heard at work... What's Going On - Marvin Gaye 3.0

See You in September - Happenings 3.5 Emotion - Samantha Sang 3.5 I Missed Again - Phil Collins 5.0 I remember adding this to a mix tape (which I still have . Great tune from Phil. Funky Broadway - Wilson Pickett 4.5 Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth) - George Harrison 4.8 I love the guitar as well! Mony Mony - Billy Idol 4.0 You Don't Own Me - Lesley Gore 3.5 Come Sail Away - Styx 4.0 Live to Tell - Madonna 1.0 Ugh! We Can Work It Out - Beatles 5.0 Awesome! To Know Him, is to Love Him - Teddy Bears 3.0 Sara - Fleetwood Mac 3.5 Gimme Little Sign - Brenton Wood 5.0 I first heard this on Ktel's Flashback Fever! Axel F - Harold Faltermeyer 2.7 Eh. (this is only slightly better than a "meh" See You in September - Happenings 3.1 I used to hate this cover, and was partial to the original by The Tempos. It was a '50s college preppie sound similar to The Lettermen, Four Preps or Four Lads. I found the Happenings version irreverant and totally unfitting to the song's "message." But this became one of the few songs where "heard it first" got overturned. The Happenings version has become the definitive version, and now I consider the Tempos version much too draggy. What do you think? Emotion - Samantha Sang (4.1) Close to 500 territory. Written by The Bee Gees and backed up vocally by Barry Gibbs gives this at least 0.5 extra. I Missed Again - Phil Collins 3.0 I agree that the horns are great, but Phil Collins is still singing it. Funky Broadway - Wilson Pickett 2.8 Not my favorite by him Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth) - George Harrison 3.6 This is a good one, but I like other George songs a lot better. A little to preachy for me. Mony Mony - Billy Idol 1.7 Billy Idol was never a favorite. The original Mony Mony is a great song. I don't want to listen to this version. You Don't Own Me - Lesley Gore 3.7 Lesley was showing that she was starting to grow up here. She was cute also. (Too bad she "plays for the other team." ) Come Sail Away - Styx 3.5 Eric Cartman's favorite song! Live to Tell - Madonna 4.2 I guess I wasn't listening to music enough in '86 to get tired of this. It's one of her better ones. We Can Work It Out - Beatles 3.9 It's the Beatles; how bad can it be? To Know Him, is to Love Him - Teddy Bears 3.1 A little too bland for my taste. - But how many of you know that one member of this trio was none other than -- Phil Spector!! Sara - Fleetwood Mac 3.7 Good one. Gimme Little Sign - Brenton Wood 3.3 Interesting little factoid here. A lot of one or two hit wonders follow up their original hit with a song that sounds exactly like the first, and the second one goes nowhere. Brenton had a minor hit called "The Oogum Boogum Song" (peaked at #34). Gimme Little Sign was the sound-alike follow up, and it made #9. Go figure. What's Going On - Marvin Gaye 3.5 Good song that gets hit by the "Preach Factor"

I guess it's kind of a trademark for her, although I think she sounds better when she's singing in a more straightforward style. I didn't know you had trained as a DJ - that's very cool!

I agree, it was a bad idea for Billy Idol to have remade Mony Mony. Tommy James' original is good, but something about the song just didn't translate well into an '80s style, especially the way Billy sang it.

I like their song, Digging Your Scene.

I remember playing that over and over, before I got the Face Value cassette. The Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out 45 was the first Beatles record I ever bought for myself - it was a '70s Capitol reissue. Both songs are great!
