Our scale: 5.0 - A song you absolutely love, one of your absolute favorites 4.0 - While not quite top-tier, a song you enjoy a lot 3.0 - Not a favorite, but you basically like it 2.0 - A "meh" song, you could take it or leave it 1.0 - Yikes! Turn that song off! **************************************************** I'd Wait A Million Years - Grass Roots 4.5 (I love the energetic quality of this song. Great horns, too!) New Kid in Town - Eagles 4.0 Don't You (Forget About Me) - Simple Minds 3.25 To Sir With Love - Lulu 3.25 (I used to hear this a lot on oldies radio. A little dated, but still nice to hear) Just A Song Before I Go - Crosby, Stills & Nash 5.0 (Very short song, but I love every second of it. I remember hearing this at the swimming pool a lot in summer '77) King of Pain - Police 3.75 Will You Love Me Tomorrow - Shirelles 3.5 (this was a favorite of my mom's, and we had the 45) It Keeps You Runnin' - Doobie Brothers 5.0 (love this, and Carly Simon's original as well) Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go - Wham! 1.5 (I liked some of their other stuff, but never warmed up to this. It's even more annoying now) My Prayer - Platters 3.5 Happy Together - Turtles 4.5 I Think I Love You - Partridge Family 3.5 (this is catchy, but some of their album cuts are even better) Only Time Will Tell - Asia 3.5 (my high school's homecoming theme in '82. We played this in band for the half-time show) I'm Your Puppet - James & Bobby Purify 3.0 Strawberry Letter 23 - Brothers Johnson 4.5

It Keeps You Runnin' - Doobie Brothers 1.5 (my friends & I used to call this the Exlax song)

My Prayer - Platters 1.5
Happy Together - Turtles 2.5 (how is the weather? desperate for a rhyme much?)
I Think I Love You - Partridge Family 2.0 (people are now saying "Bobby" Jindal got his purported first name from the Partridge Family character)
Only Time Will Tell - Asia 4.0 (didn't like anything else by them but I like this)
I'm Your Puppet - James & Bobby Purify 4.0
Strawberry Letter 23 - Brothers Johnson 1.5 (23?!!? Does the Discordian Society (q.v.) know about this clue to the conspiracy?)

I'd Wait A Million Years - Grass Roots 5.0 (I love love love the Grass Roots and there's hardly anything they did that I don't love. This song DOES remind me of having a horribly mindblowingly painful angsty unrequited crush on a guy at one time....and I so understood the thought of "waiting a million years just to have him near me." Sigh....) New Kid in Town - Eagles 4.0 (Warm summer 70s mornings. The Eagles just bring back those warm fuzzy feelings for me.) Don't You (Forget About Me) - Simple Minds 2.2 1/2 (Good song, but it reminds me of a time in my life that I'd rather forget.... Besides, this was SO HO HO overplayed back in the day.) To Sir With Love - Lulu 3.0 Just A Song Before I Go - Crosby, Stills & Nash 4.5 King of Pain - Police 2.0 (I always thought this song was depressing...) Will You Love Me Tomorrow - Shirelles 2.5 It Keeps You Runnin' - Doobie Brothers 4.0 Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go - Wham! 1.0 (I never cared for Wham! and realize how even sillier these lyrics were than I thought...) My Prayer - Platters 3.5 Happy Together - Turtles 5.0 (I love this song! When I was a teenager, we didn't have cable TV so I'd often take over a video cassette to a place where I babysat and would tape off classic clips from their stations. This was one of the songs I had. I eventually got the 45 of this at the long defunct Tower Records.) I Think I Love You - Partridge Family 3.0 (Sweet song....can't ever get it out of my head once it's in...) Only Time Will Tell - Asia 3.5 (Ohhhh.....this song reminds me of when I first discovered the Beatles. No relation to the group, but this song reminds me of that ever present feeling I had back then of "Paul love". I'm Your Puppet - James & Bobby Purify 3.0 Strawberry Letter 23 - Brothers Johnson 2.0 (Never heard this until now.)

I enjoy these picks, Dawn. Here's my input. I'd Wait A Million Years - Grass Roots 3.0 I got to see these guys preform live with my buddy Pete. He remembers the set list better than I do. New Kid In Town - Eagles 4.0 I realize the Eagles tend to be a bit overplayed. However, I feel that the Hotel California album marked a turning point for the band. Plus I think the song tells a cool story. Don't You Forget About Me - Simple Minds 4.0 Although they had other hits, these Scotsmen never quite achieved the success they had after this song. However, Jim Kerr had a great vocal style. Just A Song Before I Go - Crosby, Stills & Nash 4.0 Had the 45 at one time. I recently heard an interview with Graham Nash on what inspired this song. Far from what I imagined. King of Pain - Police 3.25 It must have been hard to follow up "Every Breath You Take". My older brother and I used to have this joke about this song. How Sting seemed somewhat dormant during the verses, then kicked into high gear for the chorus. This could have been due to the producer leaving the door open and a bee "stinging" the lead singer at the appropriate time. Will You Love Me Tomorrow - Shirelles 3.5 Great pop from the early 60's. The Beatles favorite girl group. I can see why. It Keeps You Runnin' - Doobie Brothers 3.0 Not my favorite DB song. But it did fit well in the Forrest Gump film. Wake Me Up Before You Go Go - Wham 2.5 I was never into these guys all that much. I prefer George Michael's solo work. My Prayer - The Platters 3.0 I loved their harmonies. Such talent. Happy Together - Turtles 3.75 I Think I Love You - Partridge Family 3.5 Infectious 70's bubblegum. Only Time Will Tell - Asia 3.0 The super group of the 80's. I'm Your Puppet - James & Bobby Purify 3.25 I liked the song as a kid. Sadly, I hardly hear it anymore. Strawberry Letter 23 - Brothers Johnson 4.25 I love this chestnut of '70s funk!

I'd Wait A Million Years - Grass Roots 3.5 I love the Grass Roots sound, but they went through a period where they recorded a bunch of songs (this one, River is Wide, and Two Divided By Love) that all sounded alike - not bad - but all alike. New Kid in Town - Eagles 4.3 Love it! Top 500. Don't You (Forget About Me) - Simple Minds 3.0 OK I guess. To Sir With Love - Lulu 3.4 Good memories here, but I like her far less popular followup "Best of Both Worlds" a lot more. Just A Song Before I Go - Crosby, Stills & Nash 3.5 Good song King of Pain - Police 2.5 Never cared that much for this Will You Love Me Tomorrow - Shirelles 3.7 Like this a lot, even though it was overplayed at one time. Any time I hear it I think of a morning commute to work when I was listening to a call-in radio show where this idiot was trying to convince people that the song was called Tonight's The Night -which is of course a different Shirelles song (and a top 500 song). When the host asked the idiot why he thought they were the same song he sang the line from Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow that goes "tonight the light of love is in your eyes" - only he sang it "tonight's the night the love is in your eyes" - therefore they are the same song. This argument went on for my entire 40 minute commute. It Keeps You Runnin' - Doobie Brothers 3.0 It's Okay Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go - Wham! 3.0 I never minded this that much. My Prayer - Platters 4.8 Absolutely love this one!! #72 on my last top 250. My fave by the Platters. Tony Williams had one of the best voices in the Rock/Soul era. Happy Together - Turtles 4.7 Love this one as well! #146 on my 250. Overplayed yes. But it doesn't bother me. Great memories also. I Think I Love You - Partridge Family 3.3 Not a bad song, but I always considered the Partridges to be ripoffs of the Cowsills (not that the Cowsills were worth ripping off other than for "The Rain The Park...") Only Time Will Tell - Asia 3.6 Like I've said before, I really like cheesy '80s hair ballads - well some of them. I'm Your Puppet - James & Bobby Purify 3.3 Didn't Lynn cover this? Strawberry Letter 23 - Brothers Johnson 3.7 Good song

I'd Wait A Million Years - Grass Roots 5.0 I can't say enough about how great this track is! New Kid in Town - Eagles 4.0 Don't You (Forget About Me) - Simple Minds 4.5 I love the drumming on this, rock solid! To Sir With Love - Lulu 4.2 I've seen the movie quite a few times over the years, in fact I just saw it again, about five months ago on one of our movie channels. Just A Song Before I Go - Crosby, Stills & Nash 5.0 Every time I listen to this, it amazes me just how short it is. King of Pain - Police 4,3 I really liked this one a lot and bought the 45 when it was current. Will You Love Me Tomorrow - Shirelles 4.5 I remember buying a reissue 45 of this back in the mid 80's, Dedicated To The One I Love is on the b side. It Keeps You Runnin' - Doobie Brothers 4.5 Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go - Wham! 1.0 This makes me cringe just as much now as it did then. My Prayer - Platters 3.8 Happy Together - Turtles 4.8 I Think I Love You - Partridge Family 4.5 A great track I still play every so often. The other Partridge song I like is "I Woke Up In Love This Morning." Only Time Will Tell - Asia 5.0 Dawn, we played this in the school band as well! I'm Your Puppet - James & Bobby Purify 5,0 Strawberry Letter 23 - Brothers Johnson 4.5

Does the Discordian Society (q.v.) know about this clue to the conspiracy?) Yes, Weird Al's parody was called King of Suede. I must admit, that "weather" rhyme in Happy Together does sound a little forced, although I've read that it was done intentionally.

Certain songs still remind me of a guy named Rick that I had a big crush on in my freshman and part of my sophomore years of high school. I agree that Don't You (Forget About Me) was overplayed back in the day. I still hear it fairly often on store P.A.s and such.

Oh yes, I remember Pete doing a review of a Grass Roots concert here on the Click a couple of years ago. I don't think they get out this way very often, but I'd definitely be interested in seeing one of their shows. LOL about King of Pain! You're right, Sting does seem a lot more energetic on the choruses of the song than he does on the verses!

I'd like to see it in its entirety one of these days, as I've heard it's very good. That's cool that you also played the Asia song in band! I remember it was still too new of a song at the time to have printed sheet music available, so the band director had to score the song for each of the instruments.
