Some sources say he died at 5 pm eastern time. Others say he's been hospitalized.
No one knows for sure. Sources are all over the place.

They just said on CBS news that TMZ, the website reporting his death, is usually pretty accurate. We shall see.

Right now, CNN and HLN are just saying he is hospitalized. Apparently, TMZ claims that he died.
Given TMZ's record, it could be possible...but I want official confirmation. This is so shocking.

MSNBC and the L.A. Times are now reporting that he has passed.
Very shocking news.

A friend who works for an NBC affiliate was watching the AP wire for it. About the same time she said it came across, MSN crashed, then came back up with the note on their red "Breaking News" banner.
I was never much of a fan from Thriller and past, but the earlier stuff wasn't bad.
I feel some empathy for him because he was fairly obviously mentally ill to some degree. And a lot of people took advantage of him.
I feel more sorry for his kids. They've been in a tug-of-war between Jackson and his ex-wife. And they have zero skills to be able to live in the outside world. And that is very sad.

This news definitely comes as a shock. I had read reports that there were some concerns about his health recently, but nothing that would have foreshadowed this. 50 is so young.
I didn't like the direction his music took post-Thriller, but there's no denying he was very talented. Hard to believe that cute little boy from the Jackson 5 in the '70s is now gone.

I am stunned. I can't stop crying. Even though I wasn't a huge fan of Michael, I still loved him. What a shock.

No, I definitely don't deny his talent. It's just a shame his personal life overshadowed that. It's part of the reason that I tuned out, and a lot of other people as well.

You know...regardless of any events that occurred during his tumultuous career, he was definitely a legend in his own right, and ultimately, his music will live on and on in spite of his personal life.
As someone who grew up watching his videos on music television, and having an older sister who actually had a crush on him right around the Thriller days, he was definitely a part of my childhood.
I cannot believe he is gone.

It's been a long time since I have been so stunned by the news of a musician's passing. It seems so surreal.
I remember playing my Thriller cassette over and over back in 1983, to the point I literally wore it out. He was on top of the world back then.
Definitely a sad day, especially with Farrah's passing also.

Yeah, Muchmusic (the Canadian version of MTV) is doing an all-night tribute to Michael Jackson, beginning at 8pm EST. They're airing all the music videos he's done...just watched 1979's "Rock With You". It's all so very surreal and sad.
