Jim Carroll has passed away. Although he's probably beyond the musical taste of most people here, Jim did once reach mainstream success with "People Who Died". He also wrote the book "The Basketball Diaries", which was later turned into a very popular movie. music.msn.com/music/article.aspx?news=431045>1=28102People Who Died appeared in a number of movies and tv shows. I haven't ever seen The Basketball Diaries. My favorite verse from People Who Died: Brian got busted on a narco rap He beat the rap by rattin' on some bikers He said, hey, I know it's dangerous, but it sure beats Riker's But the next day he got offed by the very same bikers

Like Ken, I've heard of Jim but am not very familiar with his music. It seems like we are losing so many musicians from the '60s and '70s these days.

I became familiar with him because we read some of his stuff in a Contemporary Lit class that I took.
His music was a little "out there" (as was his writing), but for some reason I liked it.
He had a tortured life, filled with drug abuse and other issues. I just hope he found the peace that eluded him in life.
