Hi Dawn,
Locally, so far I've been very lucky this year. I have been out Christmas shopping four times so far and have not yet been bombarded with Christmas music (btw I do like Christmas music very much). The only Xmas music I've heard so far was in Wal Mart they had the "virtual fireplace" DVD playing on the TV's at low volume.
I've mentioned before that locally one of our radio stations switches formats to "all xmas tunes" but I don't believe they start until the first of December.

Well our main Xmas music station started it yesterday. I listened to two songs, then I figured I'd wait til later to really start listening so as not to overdose.
But I gotta start practicing real soon all the holiday songs on my accordion.

Starting the first of December is a better approach, I think. You have about three and a half weeks to play Christmas music before the actual holiday, which is enough time to enjoy the songs without them becoming too repetitive or tiresome.

oh yeah. for several years we would play christmas music exclusively in our store starting around late october. they finally got rid of the music system all together earlier this year due to budget cuts. (i liked the music system near the end when it finally had more songs and a shuffle feature, but before that it was the same cheesy pop-rock and r & b songs that would play in order for 2 and 1/2 hours before starting over again) it burned me out on christmas music pretty early on in those years. Late October is definitely too early, especially with a set selection of songs! I don't blame you for being burned out on the music!

I guess as long as some songs aren't flogged to death, such as the inevitable novelty songs, i can deal with them--of course, if they'd play nothing but Dean Martin's "Marshmallow World" 24/7, I'd be estatic! A little of some of those novelty songs definitely goes a long way!

Well, Kohls' has gone to an all-holiday format - at least, the store I was in yesterday had. While I like Kohl's merchandise, the music selection on their PAs is nearly always horrible, and unfortunately their Christmas music choices are no exception. Very bland, tired-sounding reworkings of holiday songs.

At least I'm getting lots of inspiration for my quest to parody these songs...MY OWN SADISTIC WAY...those of you who have me friended on Facebook know what I am talking about...

The oldies station in Boston, has begun to play all Christmas music starting about two weeks before Thanksgiving. They began this a few years ago, and have continued the tradition ever since. What annoys me is the fact that their special weekend programming has even been suspended. I realize this was a financial decision, but it does grate on me because I enjoy Beatle Brunch and Lost 45's to cap off my week.
But I will be putting up my Christmas tree and pull out some of my favorite Christmas CD's and this will help get me in the mood for the season.

I wish one of the local stations carried Lost 45s, but unfortunately none do.

Well, it looks like the Christmas music is in full swing. In VA, while we were visiting my parents, there were at least three or four radio stations playing an all-holiday format. Not sure why there are so many this year compared to several years ago when I lived there, especially since the number of stations overall seems about the same.

Is it any wonder why so many people are burned out on holiday spirit by the time Christmas does roll around? Before I worked retail, I used to be all about holidays and decorating, and now I wish it would all go away!!!
Well, okay...I'll keep the presents. ;D
