While listening to the replacement for the Smooth Jazz station, I heard "My City Was Gone". I had never paid attention to the line "THE FARMS OF OHIO HAD BEEN REPLACED BY SHOPPING MALLS AND MUZAK FILLED THE AIR FROM SENECA TO CUYAHOGA FALLS" but tonight it stuck out at me and I got to thinking. Chrissy Hynde is from Akron. My favorite abandoned mall, Rolling Acres, is also in Akron. Since the Romig family's farm was bulldozed to build it, could it be that Rolling Acres is the mall referenced in the song? Yeah, I know it's a stretch. Anyone have Chrissy Hynde's number so I can ask her??? ;D Attachments:

I've heard that thought bandied about before, but it's usually dismissed, because the person tossing it around ususally reads too much into it, like she came home from a tour and was personally outraged or something similar. A bit of a stretch for something like that, unless they either know her, or saw an interview or something.
But you never know - from what I understand, RA's opening was a pretty huge thing, and had it's fans and it's detractors, so in a smaller way, it may very well be. The song was released in 1982. Rolling Acres opened in 1976 (or closely thereabouts). You and I know that Ohio is rife with malls (many of them now dying - and we've visited, but when I lived there in the early 90's, they were viable).
I'd love to have her number. Been a fan for a long time. I disagree with her personal politics, but I love her songs. I wanted to go to their February show in Akron this year, but the weather was crappy.
