John Cougar, or John Mellencamp, or John Cougar Mellencamp, or whatever name he goes by these days. He's an artist that's done a ton of albums, and was definitely an artist that was played in my family for years.
I think this release from 1987 is one of my favourites because it sounds like a song that you'd hear at any bar, club, diner, etc. Here's Cherry Bomb!

He's ok. I don't dislike him, but he's not in my heavy rotation list.
That being said, I do like this one. It reminds me so much of where I live (and grew up):

Like Pete, my favorite by John would probably be "This Time," a great early song of his that you don't hear very often. But a very close second would be this one, from the same album:
