Back in the day, when the double album Chicago Transit Authority came out, the story was that the name of the ALBUM was Chicago Transit Authority, and that the band had no name at all, and that they finally decided to call themselves Chicago when they released their second album. That story was apparently, untrue. Funny how false rumors can be spread if there is no Interwebz to straighten you out. ;D

The one I always heard was that the Group was named Chicago Transit Authority on the first album, and then the CTA got on their case about it, leading them to shorten it.

Lots of stories out there. The one I always heard was that the Group was named Chicago Transit Authority on the first album, and then the CTA got on their case about it, leading them to shorten it. This is the story I heard as well! I think that's the real story. I was just saying that back in the day that wasn't the story that was first presented.
