This has been called one of the most depressing songs of all time...and I gotta agree...
Great song--but man--it needs a warning label or something!

Grem, I agree with the great song part (high up in my Top 500), but I don't consider it that depressing. The narrator is doing quite well (aside from the traveling); he's a superstar or a star of some magnitude anyway. His ex-giirlfriend apparently chose a life of wealth and security rather than love. Apparently her own choice. It's sad, it's nostalgic (we'd all probably like to run into some of our own ex-lovers) but I don't find it particularly depressing. I'll post my own when I get home tonight since I cannot access YouTube from work. Which might pose the question, how do I know what song Grem posted? I get a white screen where the video should be. However if I hit the "quote" button, I can see the YouTube URL. I then google the URL. Clever huh? ;D

My song.
Reportedly, the song was written by Simon LeBon in response to the death of a friend of his...but the lyrics could represent more than that. Personally, it's how I felt about high school hell...

A year ago, I never dreamed it would be this song.

The song has always brought back memories of a former girlfriend, and how I played it often at the dreaded radio station (the owner's wife liked it, so it got airplay on a gutbucket country station). So, the song has attached meanings that amplify the lyrical plight.
