Hell of a concert, I'd say. 1965: The British music trade paper New Musical Express holds its Third Annual NME Poll Winners Concert at London's Wembley Empire Pool, featuring The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Animals, The Moody Blues, Tom Jones, Them, Donovan, The Seekers, Freddie and the Dreamers, Herman's Hermits, and Cilla Black. oldies.about.com/od/oldieshistory/a/april11.htm

1966: NBC-TV's musical variety show Hullabaloo airs its last episode after sixteen months on the air, featuring Lesley Gore, Peter and Gordon, Paul Anka, and the Cyrkle.
Hullabaloo and it's ABC counterpart, "Shindig!" were two shows I'd never miss during the mid '60s.

From what I've heard, both were top-notch live shows, and the clips are incredible (as well as accessible--are you listening, Dick Clark?)...were the ratings not very good?

From what I've heard, both were top-notch live shows, and the clips are incredible (as well as accessible--are you listening, Dick Clark?)...were the ratings not very good? I don't remember a whole lot as to what was going on back then. I was trying to finish up my tumultuous college career and get ready for grad school. Wikipedia says this about Shindig! : By October 1965, the show was having ratings problems (Time magazine said "early-season tide [was] running against the teen scene"), and in January 1966, Shindig! was cancelled and replaced in its Thursday time slots by Batman.and this about Hullabaloo: The series was originally a one-hour broadcast, airing from 8:30 - 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. In June 1965, it shifted to the 10 p.m. slot (featuring selected repeats of the first season), but three months later, the network cut the show to thirty minutes and moved it to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, where it remained to the end of its run, whereupon it was replaced by the sitcom The Monkees. In the 1965-1966 season, Hullabaloo preceded the NBC sitcom The John Forsythe Show. It was featured opposite the military drama Twelve O'Clock High on ABCI love how two years into the British invasion it was still being considered a teen phenomenon.
