Like the Beatles , at times it's hard to grasp just what an impact Elvis had on Rock N Roll.
He didn't write his own songs with the exception of a co writing credit on Don't Be Cruel. But in his case that didn't matter because he could sing all sorts of different styles wether it was a Pop , Blues or Gospel and besides he could choose great songs by people like Leiber / Stoller.
His popularity never seemed to dip . In the 50's it was the teen girls and guys who adored him but as the years went by - not only did those original fans stick by him but he attracted new generations of admireres as well.

Much like Martina-she doesn't write, but she picks out great stuff to interpret. You know you were huge when they are still doing TV specials and dedicating whole magazines to you!

Elvis is one of the most enduringly popular musical artists ever, if not THE most popular. He has reached so many people through his music and a lot of other artists have drawn much of their inspiration from him.
He is truly a legend.

You don't get named "Artist of the Century" for nothing! Remember when Michael Jackson thought MTV was giving him an "Artist of the Millennium" award? Oh God, I'm laughing so hard at that, I'm snorting!!
