Some recent CD releases I keep forgetting to post about!
ZZ Top-Rancho Texicano:The Very Best of ZZ Top
Seems to be a very complete 2 disc collection of both their classic and MTV era stuff. And no crappy redone versions! I need to pick this one up!
Heart & Fleetwood Mac (ironically 2 bands a former cover band here covered) have each re-released 3 of their most classic albums.
For the Mac, the self titled album, Rumours and Tusk have all gotten the deluxe treatment, with bonus tracks. Interestingly, Silver Springs has been put into the regular lineup of Rumours!
Heart has reissued Little Queen, Dog & Butterfly and Bebe le Strange. All have at least 2 bonus tracks.
These ALL look interesting!
The Allman Brothers have a 2 disc Anthology out from Hip-O records. I'm not too big on them, so the single disc "jean jacket" compilation is good enough for me.
The Isley Brothers have an Essential 2 disc collection with 34 tracks on it.
Put these on your Christmas lists!!

While CD shopping yesterday I noticed both the Tusk and Rumours reissue's - they didn't have the self titled disc - which is the one I would like.
I read about the ZZ top collection in Goldmine . It's VERY nice that they decided to include the original mixes this time around .
It would be nice to have that Little Queen disc - since it was a real fave of mine when I was a kid (until the 8 - track busted LOL)

Ed, are you bitter about the ever changing record industry? LOL!! No, seriously, I know what you are saying, it's not just the bonus tracks though, it's the remastering. Many CD's sound like horseshit on their original release so if you want a good sounding CD, you have to buy it again anyway. Well anyway, the ZZ, Allmans and Isleys don't mention bonuses! LOL!

I think the answer is probably downloading. As long as you get to hear what you are downloading before you buy the track, you can get what you want. Maybe someday we'll all just have a computer chip implanted in our brains the day we're born. Then we just "tune in" to anything we want, and to hell with all the changing media. ;D

Sounds good!
I have a ZZ Top best of on CD, but it's not as complete as I would like. The Mac albums and Heart's Dreamboat Annie and Dog & Butterfly I have on LP (and Mac's Rumours on CD also), but it would be nice to update. I'd also be interested in checking out the Allman and Isley collections.

I still love CD shopping, experimenting, etc. I like reading liner notes, looking at pics, etc. One guy downloaded a bunch of Who songs for me, and they were all at different volume levels and it really put me off. OMG, that is so funny!! I said that would be the next media-something in our brain where we would just think about it, and we could hear a song or see a movie!

I've seen the ZZ Top set out, but it's not something I'm interested in getting. I've considered getting all three of those deluxe Mac albums. I thought it was really cool that they put Silver Springs on the first disc of Rumours with all the other original album tracks. I bet that pleased Stevie. Those Heart re-releases might be good too. The others you mentioned aren't really anything I'd want to have.

How did you and Ed happen to answer at the same time?? LOL! It looks like we were 12 seconds apart. -- But actually, you found us out. Dawn and I are really the same person posting under two different names to confuse people. We/I am actually a 15 year old high school drop out from Duluth, named Ralph. Soon you too will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

This looks quite good! I actually considered getting the ZZ Top 4-CD box set a while ago, but the 2-CD set sounds cool!
Heart, Allmans, and the Mac look good too.
And if the Isleys set happens to cover ALL the good ones from 1959-1983, I'm getting it! (Shout, This old heart of mine, It's Your thing, Pop that thang, That Lady (Parts 1 AND 2), Footsteps in the Dark, and Between the Sheets--all MUSTS! Any of them left out, NOT BUYING! ;D)

As many ZZ Top fans know, all of their early albums on London were re-dubbed with electronic drum tracks in the 80's when they were released on CD. They appear the same way on the "ZZ Top Six Pack". To this day, the Box Set is the ONLY place to get a lot of the original mixes. I HOPE this means that the catalog will be re-mastered as well..

Do you have the pre-MTV best of, or the one that has Viva Las Vegas on it? The one with Viva Las Vegas - Greatest Hits. LOL about Ed's post about he and I being Ralph! ;D
