Found these on wikipedia.com. Both had died in the last week or so.
First, country singer Sammi Smith, whose only pop hit sold over a million, "Help me make it through the night". Believe she was 61.
And great jazz organist Jimmy Smith, age 76 or so. You might know his organ riff on Michael Jackson's smash hit "Bad". No relation to Sammi, BTW.
RIP, Sammi and Jimmy. You'll be missed.

... great jazz organist Jimmy Smith, age 76 or so. You might know his organ riff on Michael Jackson's smash hit "Bad". I didn't know he played on that, but I do have some of his stuff on various jazz compilations. I especially like his song "Blues and the Abstract Truth". (That's on the Verve records sampler, which I was just listening to today.) Anyway, very sorry to hear about both of them passing. I may have heard some of Sammi's other songs--I know I've heard "Help Me Make It..."--but I'm not sure.

Two legends, same last name, no relation.
Jimmy Smith is perhaps the greatest organist of all time. His innovations with the Hammond B3 laid the groundwork for that classic rock organ sound I love so much, on records by everyone from Sugarloaf to Vanilla Fudge.. His 1963 hit "Walk On The Wild Side" is AWESOME!
....and Sammi Smith, I love her rendition of the Kristofersson classic.

RIP, Sammi and Jimmy. Like Pete, I think Sammi did a wonderful job with Help Me Make It Through the Night.

I never heard of Jimmy Smith and I only know Sammi by name (saw a piece about Kristofferson last night and they mentioned Help Me Make it Through the Night).
RIP
