I have to say that I found the comment about Ozzy at the conclusion of the article rather amusing. Ok, I agree, obviously all our favorite classic rock bands are getting "up there" in age and a few have retired (Bill Wyman and Christine McVie are two that come to mind). But with all the crappy (there I said it lol) music that's out there, there really isn't much to choose from. I'm sure not going to spend money on so called "artists" like 50 cent, Fergie, Amy Whinehouse or the latest "American or Canadian Idol" flavor of the week. "stepping down off soapbox" Your thoughts? here's the link to the article - enjoy ca.news.yahoo.com/s/reuters/070826/entertainment/entertainment_germany_oldies_col_1

I think the German critics are being unfairly stereotyping (not a new thing among Germans ) Some acts have lost it; some have not; some have replaced it. Should "old rockers" perform? If the $$ are still coming in, why the heck not? If people aren't going to see them, they'll get the hint soon enough and stop. Its a case-by-case thing. If the artists still have their voices and the ability to play their instrument(s) well - and want to perform, why shouldn't they? I coudn't care less if someone can't jump off the stage anymore. As for the new artists .. well, you know how I feel about (c)rap. But a guy here at work burned an Amy Winehouse cd for me (btw, LOL on your spelling Whinehouse) and I kinda like her. Now - I don't care for her hit single "Rehab" -- where I understand she is right now, despite her protestations, but much of her other tracks have a '50s bluesy feel to them and I really enjoy them.

I'm sure not going to spend money on so called "artists" like 50 cent, Fergie, Amy Whinehouse or the latest "American or Canadian Idol" flavor of the week. *grin* I think I'm one of the 5 people in the world who has not heard Amy Winehouse yet. I've heard OF her, but that's about it. Then again, I don't always know the songs that are played on the radio here at the office--sometimes I just hear 'em in the background and don't really get a good listen. So maybe I HAVE heard her and don't know it. I'm not crazy about Fergie, but I do like her song "Big Girls Don't Cry". (not a cover of the 4 Seasons one, but a different song with the same name) I understand, though, she also recorded "Barracuda" and that _IS_ a cover of the Heart song. Yikes--I love that song; I hope she didn't ruin it! (I haven't heard her version yet, but have read mixed reviews) 50 Cent? I think maybe I've heard people do some of his songs for karaoke, but they didn't make a big impression on me.

Interesting article!
I think these German critics are being a little harsh on the older generation of rockers. Yes, there are some artists currently touring who are probably long past their prime, but the majority of them seem to be going strong. Except for a few jazz artists, most of the concerts I've attended in the last several years have been artists aged 50 and older, and they were all good performances, some even outstanding.
I'm not familiar with most newer music except for a few songs here and there, but I haven't been impressed enough with what I have heard to dig deeper.

An update to my previous message on this thread:
I finally did hear Fergie's version of "Barracuda". And whaddaya know--she DIDN'T ruin it! In fact, her version is very good IMHO. I've read comments from a lot of people online who thought it sucked, but I actually liked it. I was pleasantly surprised.
