Before my All Time Top 250 Countdown gets started, I thought I'd just list 20 songs that just missed making the top 250. -- Not in any order, not even necessarily 251-270. Just 20 songs that came close.
Alphabetically By Title:
Cry Softly Lonely One- Roy Orbison Crying - Roy Orbison Delilah - Tom Jones Heart of the Matter - Don Henley I Drove All Night - Roy Orbison I'm Always Chasing Rainbows/I'm Coming Home - Alice Cooper I Could Have Loved You So Well - Ray Peterson I've Got Bonnie - Bobbie Rydell Just Like A Woman - Bob Dylan The Last Resort - The Eagles Love Is Strange - Mickey and Sylvia New Kid In Town - The Eagles Paradise By The Dashboard Light - Meat Loaf Peaceful, Easy Feeling - The Eagles Poison - Alice Cooper Prisoner - Aztec Two-Step Reason To Believe - Rod Stewart Smoke Gets In Your Eyes - The Platters Stand By Your Man - Tammy Wynette You Don't Love Me Any More - Weird Al Yankovic
(You see that Roy and the Eagles are well represented)

Maybe about 8 years ago or so I had made a list of a number of songs that over the years had been my faves. From memory I came up with maybe 100 or so, and I started copying my 45s to cassette to listen in the car. Then about 3 years ago I started converting them to cds, burning several compilations. Periodically I would add more to my list and burn more cds. About the time The Click came into being, I had maybe 175 or so of my faves on these cds. Then when you guys would publish song lists or opinion requests, I would often answer your posts by stating that one of your songs was in "my All Time Top 250". It was in fact, on one of my cds of favorites. Then Adam started hinting -- well badgering me actually (j/k) -- that I should post my list. So I had to "flesh out" the list. The last added songs were always there among my faves, but I had never "officially" put them on the list. So it took until now to burn the remaining cds, and compile on ordered list. So now it's ready to go. I tried to limit (to a degree) the number of songs from any one artist to no more than 3 or 4. That's why "Crying" didn't make the list. I love the song, but there are a few of Roy's that I love more -- and they aren't necessarily his biggest hits. So I need to thank a lot of you guys for your own lists and other posts that brought several of my faves back to mind. And I must thank Adam for his badgering whining nagging yapping bothering driving me crazy uh -- encouraging me to publish my list. ;D So it'll start on Monday, 10 songs per post, probably twice a week. Oh, and Hey Jude is NOT #1 on my list either.

Nah, just kidding. I know I'm a pest to most people on here.

So does this mean if you had say, 6 Elvis songs you really liked, that you'd knock a couple out because it was too many in favor of 2 songs you didn't like as much?

So does this mean if you had say, 6 Elvis songs you really liked, that you'd knock a couple out because it was too many in favor of 2 songs you didn't like as much? I guess the answer would be yes (although it should be no ) It never really came up as such. I had already chosen a top 250, and Crying wasn't in it. Then I went back and listed a bunch of other faves, like the 20 in this list. I asked myself, for instance, should Crying knock something else out, and decided that knocking out a non Roy song for yet another Roy song isn't what I wanted to do. There was only one last change to the list.

Let's put it this way-my Martina total is over double your 3-4 limit in the top 250!

Let's put it this way-my Martina total is over double your 3-4 limit in the top 250! It's hard to say. I never got into the position of having to keep out a really highly ranked song. If Crying had gotten in, it would have been low - maybe 245-250. Also, I found that a couple of my favorite artists were lightly represented in the top 250. Didn't expect it to turn out that way, but it did. But maybe they'd each have 25 songs between 250-1000. The best analogy I can think of is the Boston Celtics NBA team of the late '50s - early '60s. The Celtics won something like 10 NBA titles in a row. If you looked at a list of the top 10 scorers in any given year, you wouldn't find a single Celtic among them. However, they would have about six players in the top 50.

I love Steely Dan, but when I looked back at the list, they are poorly represented in the top 1000 or whatever. But I figured, as much as I like em, the other songs that are above em I just happened to like more. As an example, I may have like 3 or 4 Rainbow tunes before the first Steely tune. But after that, Rainbow drops off, and there is a ton of Steely in the 1000-2500 area. So I see what you are saying, I just had to stop worrying about which acts weren't represented well.

I'm finally just getting around to reading your list H2. I'm actually surprised that "Crying" missed the top 250. It's such a magical song. But it's still one of your faves obviously so I'll shut up with my comments. Anyway, I love "New Kid In Town" and "The Last Resort" too.
