Seven more obscure songs from the 80's and 90's. If you know them, share your thoughts. If you don't know them, see if you can find them. 1. "High School Confidential" Rough Trade ('80 album "Avoid Freud") - Canadian glam-rock band. Not the same tune that Jerry Lee Lewis did. 2. "Shaddap You Face" Joe Dolce ('81 album same title as song) - Italian novelty. I remember hearing this at the roller skating rink. "What'sa matter you? HEY!" 3. "The Maker" Daniel Lanois ('89 album "Acadie") - Progressive rock. Born in Canada, also produced albums from the likes of Bob Dylan, U2, Peter Gabriel, & Robbie Robertson. 4. "Driving With The Brakes On" Del Amitri ('95 album "Twisted") - Pop group from Glasgow. Also had a top 10 hit with "Roll To Me," from the same album. 5. "Living In A Dream" Pseudo Echo ('87 album "Love An Adventure") - Australian group. 1st single from this album. Better known for the 2nd single, remake of "Funky Town." 6. "Boom! There She Was" Scritti Politti ('88 album "Provision") - Welsh synth-pop group. Lead singer is Green Gartside. Had earlier success with the songs "Hypnotize" and "Perfect Way." 7. "Gimme No Crack" Shinehead ('88 album "Unity") - Reggae, rap artist. Anti-drug song, he sings real fast: "Don't-gimme-that-me-don't-want-that-don't-gimme-that-me-don't-want-no crack, crack!" Had more success in the '90s with singles like "Jamaican In New York." That's it for this week... Seeya next time!

Hey TripleJ!
The only one that is familiar is Shaddup You Face by Joe Dolce. It got quite a bit of airplay around here in the early '80s. Very funny, if non PC song. I used to carpool to work back then with this guy who is Italian, and he couldn't stop laughing whenever this came on the radio.

The only song I know is Shddap Your Face by Joe Dolce. It was a UK #1 for couple of weeks while I was stationed in England. I wouldn't necessarily rank it very high on my favorites list (if at all). Kind of a silly song.

I never did hear "Shuddup Your Face" (or however you spell it) all the way through, only bits & pieces. I read somewhere, though, that Joe Dolce had another song that was a takeoff on "The 12 Days of Christmas" and the lyrics were about Italian food! That sounds yummy! About 10 years ago, one of the restaurants here--I believe it was Rax?--had a pseudo-Italian commercial for their pasta saying "Stuffa your face". Not very PC either, I guess--but being a pasta lover, it's hard to argue with a commercial for pasta that encourages you to "stuffa your face"! My response was always, "Thank you--don't mind if I do!" ;D

Rough Trade--only know "All touch".
Joe Dolce--Yes! Would be great to see this on CD--heard it more often in Europe than America.
Daniel Lanois--know him as a producer/writer, not an artist.
Del Amitri--Good one!
Living in a dream--heard it for like one month, haven't heard since, and can STILL remember SOMEWHAT what it sounded like. But quickly forgotten in favor of Funky town.
Boom there she was--Forgotten in favor of Perfect Way. Good gimmick from Roger.
Know Shinehead as an artist, just don't know his songs too well. And MUCH better than modern rapper Shyne (may he stay jailed forver).

I don't know as many this week "Shaddap You Face" Joe Dolce - I remember this but never liked it. "The Maker" Daniel Lanois ('89 album "Acadie") - Remember this only because my boyfriend at the time like this album. "Living In A Dream" Pseudo Echo ('87 album "Love An Adventure") - I totally remember this. I haven't heard it since I was 17 though. "Boom! There She Was" Scritti Politti ('88 album "Provision") - See above comments. This takes me back to my senior year in HS. I remember Shinehead and Del Amitri as artists but I don't know these songs.

The only one I even recognize is Joe Dolce, and that's only because my dad had it on a K-Tel album! LOL! I don't even know the song!
