Welcome to a special edition of...

Today, June 18th, in honor of Paul McCartney's birthday, I'd like to share with you some obscure Macca songs that I like. You know 'em? Share your thoughts. Don't know 'em? Check 'em out! You can also comment on any other of his lesser-known songs that you like, OK? Here we go...
1. Young Boy ('97 album "Flaming Pie") - Guitar by special guest Steve Miller. Very fun tune! The opening really hooks you in. If this was released at the height of Paul's popularity, like in the mid-70's, it probably would've been a big hit.
He's just a young boy looking for a way to find love... it isn't easy, nothing you can say will help him... find love... he's gotta do it for himself, and it can take so long... he's just a young boy looking for a way to find love
2. A Love For You ('03 soundtrack "The In-Laws") - A song written in '70 during the "Ram" sessions, it was dusted off and featured in the Michael Douglas & Albert Brooks film. I like the original demo... Paul sings in a strange high voice, sometimes screaming.
Where will I run to, where would I hide... if you ever leave me by my side... where will I run to, what would I do... I really am, I really can, I really do, I really have a love for you
3. Somedays ('97 album "Flaming Pie") - A melancholy but pretty acoustic number. I love the lyrics.
Somedays I look... I look at you with eyes that shine... somedays I don't... I don't believe that you are mine... it's no good asking me what time of day it is... who won the match or scored the goal... somedays I look... somedays I look into your soul
4. Not Such A Bad Boy ('84 soundtrack "Give My Regards To Broad Street") - The film totally flopped, but this is one of the better tracks written for it. Has a catchy guitar riff, and some cool drums by Ringo!
I followed the leader... into her tent... but nobody told me, that she owed some rent... she wanted to love me... I wanted to go... but she taught me things that I needed to know... I'm not... such a... bad boy no more, no more, no more, I'm not... such a... bad boy no more, no more, no more
5. Monkberry Moon Delight ('71 album "Ram") - Tune about a potent potable. Bizarre lyrics, more screaming from Paul, and off-key vocals from Linda, but still... I like it!
So I stood with a knot in my stomach... and I gazed at that terrible sight... of two youngsters concealed in a barrel... sucking monkberry moon delight
6. Did We Meet Somewhere Before? ('81 film "Rock 'N' Roll High School") - Sweet, easy listening. The lyrics repeat redundantly, but I like it a lot. I didn't know the song was in this movie, but that was the only source I could find for it. I have the track on a bootleg CD called "Cold Cuts."
Did we meet somewhere before, far behind that half closed door... or is this just one more thing that's happening... to both of us... happening time, and time again, happening over and over... will the king's horses and all the king's men, ever find out... what it's about
7. Waterfalls ('80 album "McCartney II") - More sweet stuff. Soft electric piano with some acoustic guitar. One verse, about polar bears, to me is unintentionally hilarious.
Don't go jumping waterfalls... please keep to the lake... people who jump waterfalls sometimes can make mistakes... and I need love, yeah I need love, like a second needs an hour, like a raindrop needs a shower... yeah I need love, every minute of the day... and it wouldn't be the same... if you ever should decide to go away
8. Get Out Of My Way ('93 album "Off The Ground") - Good rockin' beat. Sounded GREAT when he performed it on his '93 tour.
Get out of my way, get out of my life, I don't need anybody to tell me how to be right... don't try to stop me, I've got the answer, I won't need anybody except my woman tonight
9. Tug Of War ('82 album, same title) - Another pretty acoustic one. Love his voice on this.
It's a tug of war... what with one thing and another, it's a tug of war... we expected more, but with one thing and another, we were trying to outdo each other, in a tug of war
10. Beautiful Night ('97 album "Flaming Pie") - No lie, this is my favorite song... ever! Most of it is a slow piano tune, that climaxes with a ROCKIN' finale! Another guest appearance from Ringo on drums.
Someone's gone out fishing, someone's high and dry, someone's on a mission to the lonely Lorelei, some folk's got a vision, of a castle in the sky... and I'm left stranded, wondering why... you and me together, nothing feels so good, even if I get a medal from my local neighborhood, I won't need a castle, they've got castles in Versailles... and I'm still stranded, wondering why... make it a beautiful night for me... it`s a beautiful night for love... a wonderful sight, for lovers of love to behold
