What I listened to on my Autumn Vacation Part 2

Another of the CDs I brought with me.

Several months ago, a guy I work with gave me some Nero CD burning software which was an upgrade from the version I had been using. After I installed it, I wanted to try it out. I checked a folder that I had filled with miscellaneous mp3s that I had not burned onto a cd. I went around chosing songs at random until I had enough to fill an audio cd.

This is what I got:

13. In And Out of Love - Bobby Vee (2:44)
14. Make It Easy on Yourself - The Walker Brothers (3:16)

16. Surf's Up - The Beach Boys (4:15)
17. Warm Ride - Rare Earth (3:45)

Several of these have Click connections via various recommendations. (# 2,5,9,16,17,18 and 21.)

A few old faves from the early days (# 1,3,4)

#10 is a leftover (Not enough room for this one on the "Play It Again" CD I burned a few years ago on which every song title is "Gloria"

#12 Back several years ago I was trolling for Nancy songs

#20 The Marcels had hits of varying levels with Blue Moon, Heartaches and My Melancholy Baby. This song takes elements and lyrics from all three to result in a very strange song.

I am almost embarassed to say that I had never heard this song even though it was a monster in '96. Then when Nancy and I were in NYC a few years ago, we saw Toni in Aida on Broadway. I was curious about the song and downloaded it. I actually like it. I should have put it on my list of '90s songs I actually like.

Steppin' in a Slide Zone is one of my favorite Moody Blues songs. It's not one of their better-remembered tracks, but it's very well done.

Drive takes me right back to the beginning of my junior year of high school. I remember thinking at the time that it sounded so different from most of the other Cars tracks.

Surf's Up is a masterpiece. Absolutely stunning vocals from both Carl and Brian (and there is a Brian-only version which I actually prefer a bit more.)

What is the Nancy song like? I've heard of Train, but not that particular track.

Slide Zone is one of those songs that if I play it going into work, I'll be humming it all day.

Drive has always intrigued me. First of all, why would a group called the Cars record a song called Drive. Second, you'd think a song called Drive would be either a '60s type car song, or a hard rocker. It's really quite a pretty ballad.

Surf's Up (which I think came from me reading Pete's Beach Boys countdown) is a great song.

One day in the heyday of Napster, I did a search on Nancy and discovered this. It's kind of a funky little song. Not that good really. I've never been able to find a Nancy song that I like.

There are some very good tunes listed. I think I have a Linda Scott song on either 45 or a 50S/ 60's comp on vinyl and I can't remember the title - I think it maybe different than the one you have here Ed.
