This was my 2nd Huey Lewis show, and once again, he did not disappoint.
We had excellent 2nd row seats, but when we walked in to the Community Arts Center, we found out cameras were banned......
Huey has most of the original News, and has added a few people to his horn section. He does most of his big hits, some minor hits, and some old doo-wop and Mowtown-type music.
Even in his mid-50's, he's high energy and a lot of fun. We were dancing in the aisles and screaming all night long. It was a near sell out, and most of the people there were big fans.
He has an incredible lead guitar player who was not a member of the original News. The guy blew me away all night.
Featured songs:
Heart Of Rock and Roll (opener)
Heart and Soul (MY FAVORITE!)
If This Is It
But It's Alright (alright girl, you can hurt me.....)
It's Alright (have a good time....done a capella)
Stuck With You
I Want A New Drug
Jacobs Ladder
Hip To Be Square (which is now Too Hip To Be Square)
Power Of Love
Workin' For A Livin' (the finale)
Do You Believe In Love (which he's changed a bit from the original - not sure if I like it)
And others too numerous to mention.
The show runs about 2 hours.
We saw him as Musikfest in 2001. That was an exceptional show because it was the last one of his tour. Because he didn't have to be anywhere, he stayed an extra hour and took requests.
In conclusion, Huey is definately worth the time if you like that kind of music. He sounds great live (just like on his albums) and his band is phenomenal.
**I may be wrong - it appears the guitar player was with the News back in the late 80's and may be the original guy - it's hard to tell from the pictures on the cd's**
